The egg timers sand is already starting to flow with this announcement. Maybe it's eventual failure will finally knock some sense into those with too much money to spend? Nah, probably not.

RIP World Football League, USFL, World League of American Football, NFL Europe, XFL, UFL, AAF, XFL again, and USFL again.
Nailed it!

Football is an awesome sport..... An awesome 'fall' sport. Contested at the time of the year where fans spend more time indoors. I don't think we'll ever see fans glued to their televisions on summer weekends. Watching mediocre players play below average football games just ain't gonna happen. Should have saved your money FOX.

Yeah, I love football as much as the next guy, but I cannot for the life of me get into any of these spring leagues.

I think a lot of it has to do with these leagues being 25% of the size of their pro counterparts. It means a much smaller audience (mostly catering to just the 5 most populated areas) and most team sports fans can't can't behind rooting for a team not from their area.

NFL and College season is just perfect. It's just long enough that it leaves you satisfied and so short that it makes you anticipate.

One thing I used to like about short track racing in this area was when it just went on from April-September and then you had a couple big races after. Now, it goes from February-December.

The spring leagues are usually pretty devoid of talent as well, mostly a collection of has-beens and never-will-be’s. Every now and they’ll springboard a player to the NFL (Tommy Maddox got the Steelers starting QB gig after his performance in the XFL part 1), but it’s rare.
