Tokyo Olympics

US definitely not sending all our athletes to the Parade of Nations. Of course we, being the kings, probably have like 600+ athletes competing.

The first gold medal goes to China .......... in shooting.

WTF? Why have millions and millions and millions and millions of guns in America if we can't use them?

Just a friendly reminder, for all the non-Americans watching:

I just caught myself and deleted my post. Got to be mindful of being a spoiler for
those who are watching their recorded dvrs like me. But , I will say the bike race
was excellent and the course was beautiful.

What I like about the dvr is I can fast forward through the contests that dont
interest me that much.

I think it's okay to post Hotrod as this goes along? if there's something nervous of getting spoilered on I shy away from the thread until such time, mixing live and dvr etc, I like to hear what you guy's have to say.. even beforehand sometimes. But that's just me.

Coming in hot
Congrats to Carapaz getting gold in Road Race for Ecuador's 3rd ever medal and likely his highlight win holding off the lead group of favorites containing back to back tdf champion Pogacar who ended up with Bronze, WVA silver, gutsy gutsy effort by american Brandon McNulty after getting dropped to get back in the sprint group, left it all on the table 👍

Couple of alternative takeaways from watching the cycling up sacred last samurai tom cruise Mt. Fuji, first the legend of the Great White Duckling in Lake Kawaguchi is real and we now have video evidence. The mountain itself, beautiful landscape natural elements untouched untarnished preserve no mountain biking allowed because of panda. Couldn't ask for a better backdrop and I hope all those water bottles get cleaned up.

In addition the USA booth has embraced the role of anti-gerbil to balance broadcast volume against NBC. Exception when they cut to Fencing, those guy's are pumped up with high-pitched energy celebrations.

The near collision on Fuji Speedway pit road with feedbag delivery guy attempting the re-fuel on snacks, lucky to escape unscathed after forcing bicycle brake lockup on the leaders, no report of flatspotting tire vibration stayed green. Other crashes from upright bicycle to asphalt look painful... is safer barrier spandex in the works post-sign lady? These are pressing questions that cross my mind, but I digress.

Enjoyable how different that was from the Tour De France with no radio communication allowed to the riders, seems more pure organic race that way as a 1-off event, lots of hungry contenders took their shot at Olympic hardware. Fantastic sporting entertainment to start.

I now turn my attention to women's beach volleyball.

This should have been delayed or flat out canceled. Not the same without the crowd’s atmosphere.

The completely empty stands also doesn’t help.

Should’ve just moved this to Florida. Stupid to have this with pretty much no fans

Takes away from the environment so much. Track and Field with no fans is gonna be a snooze fest

It's a noticeable difference in crowd buzz ambiance sure.

As an athlete though, you're already amped up to the max, knowing you're competing for what may be a once in a lifetime Olympic medal and knowing millions are watching you at home, YEARS of hardwork compressed into a spotlight moment that you'll never forget, no extra motivation is required on their end.

Knowing that, is a big reason why I watch, and why not having much of a crowd seems rather unimportant to me.

on the otherhand these Taekwondo screams are enough to supply all remaining events
