In the following weeks, Kevin Harvick will announce his retirement. In the process, he will vouch for Matt DiBenedetto to get the #4, just like Paul Menard did.

Stewart-Haas will approve, & DiBurrito will drive the #4 with sponsor from Mobil 1, Hunt Brothers Pizza & Jimmy John's.

Matt is too good to not have a ride. He will have a breakout season, winning multiple races & a title contender next year.

My thinking is that Harvick will want to end his career on a high note.

Sometimes it's better to retire @ the top of your game.

Not everyone wants to end up finishing their career like Jimmie Johnson did.

I wouldn't call 2021 a high note for Harvick, and I feel like he will want to give the next gen car a shot. He still has a lot left in the tank IMO

That's debatable. I think his time as an elite driver in the sport has come to an end.

That said, it hasn't been a terrible season. However, it's probably all downhill from now.
 
the new car will bring some drivers to the top and others not so much.i think harvick will stay to see what happens. not sure where matt will be but i hope he finds a good ride and beats the 21 every week.

That's not saying much. His teammates aren't in the same stratosphere as him when it comes to talent.

He's getting up there in age, an age in which drivers historically start to decline.

Teams are sleeping on DiBenedetto. They don't realize what a diamond in the rough he is.

In terms of sheer talent, he's up there with the best imo.

Why do you think that? The guy dominated last year winning 9 races and the only thing he didn't do was win the championship race. The cars changed over the winter he didn't. The cars are changing again next year so what makes you think he can't be right back up front again?

I think he's getting up there in age, which could also be a factor in him not winning any races.

Regardless of him being competitive or not, I think he'll definetly be mulling retirement pretty soon.

He could definetly prove me wrong with the new car, but I have my doubts.
 
I think SHR like Penske has taken this year to rest up and save money.
They were suppose to be in the new car this year so shop plans went all to heck.
I think next season is going to be fun, just watching who are the fast learners and what drivers can adopt the quickest.

I have no idea if this the beginning of the end for Harvick or not, but for Johnson, that light switch turned off REALLY fast. From Champion to afterthought in about a year.

I SERIOUSLY doubt that. If there are two people in racing that have shown no hesitation to spend money to try to win, it's Roger Penske and Gene Haas. Compared to Haas's F1 team, whatever he spends in NASCAR is loose change under his car seat.

I can see Harvick retiring and joining Bowyer in the Fox booth. But I don't see Matty D replacing him at SHR.
 
I don’t think Harvick has lost anything… I do believe they had the best car for most of the season last year and simply put this year they don’t.

but the general narrative seems to be that the new car is expected to be somewhat of an equalizer… so I would begin to imagine a guy like Harvick thinks he can go out and win races next year just as much as the next Cup driver.

he is signed through 2023, and I can’t find any rumors suggesting he wants out of his deal.

Does Ford currently have anyone outside SHR and Penske that's as good as Burrito? For purposes of this question, I'm considering Kez to still be in the #2 car.

To some degree, probably, but the HMS cars weren't terrible last year, and Jimmie still wasn't very good. Beyond not being real competitive, he just made too many mistakes the old Jimmie didn't make. I'm guessing the pre-2016 Jimmie doesn't run dead last in Indycar races either. I'm not saying he would have set the world on fire, but not nearly as bad as he has run this year.

It was the crash at Pocono in 2017 that was the beginning of the end for JJ.
 
Come to think of it......I actually think Matty D would be a good pick up for SHR, I would think he'd raise the performance on the 41.
