Pre Race: Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race@Bristol Motor Speedway

Yeah I think the regular rates for that Super 8 were like $70/night at the time. Five times higher for race weekend. Ridiculous. It was actually pretty damn nice for a Super 8 though, LOL
I think that area does very well with clean motels.

I went in 1991, so before the enclosure and concrete. I still remember the impression of "holy crap this is steep" and being amazed at how fast the cars looked coming off the corner at you. I sat right by start finish and fairly low.
The speed is just unreal off the turns. I'd have to say it's the most exhausting race of the year, just constant chaos for 500 laps

I wish I was heading down to Johnson City TN today to see the racing this weekend at Bristol. So bummed, Covid last year canceled the trip and this year we have other stuff going on. Hoping for 2022.

You have know idea unless you're in the infield in the turns to see how fast and how hard they are going lap after lap.

Kurt is in 12th right now, he has a good chance to make it.
I don't believe I said he didn't, but boom just like last week can happen. He is on the line, Bowman has a good night and he doesn't, wreck, bad pit can all come into play when he doesn't have any cushion

One of my favorite Gordon wins. The winless streak was made to be a big deal coming off Championship #4. Squashing that narrative while also at the expense of Rusty made it all the more sweeter.
The older I got, the more..off put by Rusty Wallace I became LOL.

Rusty was actually my most hated driver. Always seemed like he was jealous of Jeff’s success. I really cheered against him after Richmond 98. Rusty kinda reminded me of Shooter McGavin

Rusty was always all bark and no bite and was seen as a tough guy. Meanwhile Gordon was all bite and no bark, whooped everyone’s ass, and was seen as a weakling.

Weird.

He might of had some bite in him but being the size he was didn't scare anyone. Like it or not it was the good ol boy vs the city kid and generally threats from a good ol boy scare more people than a city kid wanting to fight. Its nothing against jeff but it's been well documented that he didn't fit the mold of the typical nascar driver of the time

eh he may not have fit the mold of the ol country bumpkin but I sure as hell enjoyed watching him kick those country boy's asses for the time he did.

They never saw him coming in 95.

I wasn't ever a Gordo fan but I can appreciate his talent and accomplishments, much along the lines of JJ

JG is still my favorite driver, its also still weird he's not racing every week. I am not sure I'll ever get over it. Watching Kyle Larson has taken some of that sting off I'll say that though.

When Jeff said that he wanted Larson at HMS all those years ago, he meant it.

I feel bad for Michael Annett but I think it's a good call if he isn't feeling 100%. Bristol even in an Xfinity race is not the place you want to run around wounded

He was open about it. He wanted to be the guy to take down Dale. At times, he came off petty, and a know it all wheel man.

Rusty is one of the greatest..but dude, shut your mouth once in a while lol

Clearly.

Jeff has always had pull at HMS, and every decision he makes for the team, he's earned the right to make. HMS owes him a lot, he's a winner, and in all honesty hard to dislike. I've loved him in the booth.

I'd love to see JJ end up back at HMS when he totally hangs it up. With no offense to Larson, Elliot, etc, when you think of HMS, you think Gordon, Jimmie and Chad lol

I think he alluded to that on Dale Jr's podcast. I find Rusty very interesting, I just hated him as a driver. I actually wish he ended up on TV, I thought he did well on the ESPN NASCAR Coverage.

After watching the highlights from last nights race I think the cup guys will have a hard time beating that

In Jeopardy? Waltrip won Bristol 12 times, 6 of them in a row.
I said I thought.

In 2017, he was only 32 years old and had 8 wins. He needed to win here 5 more times over the following decade. I thought *then* it was possible.

4 seasons later and he still has 8 wins. I don't think he touches that now. 2017 I thought it was possible.

Kyle with "The Sweep " though...
The only Driver to do so, and the only active driver with the most wins @ BMS.
