With all the talk of story book seasons, greatest driver in the garage etc. where does everyone think Kyle would have finished if he wasn’t allowed out of his contract and stayed at CGR?

I Would he have finished better then Bowman?
Would he have finished better then Kurt?

Makes it to the Semifinal round of the playoffs, probably gets 2-3 wins.

Bowman has a really good crew chief and a really good car. Hendrick would still dominate, with Bowman at the top in wins but Chase on top in points.

Definitely an interesting thing to think about. KL just improved so much as far as consistency and defensive driving from 2019, a much more complete driver. He was so notorious for making mistakes or failing to hold positions and losing races in the closing laps

Just for reference -

Alex Bowman 14th points - 4 wins and 8 top 5's

Kurt Busch 11th in Points - 1 win and 6 top 5's

More consistent as a driver? or more consistent car/team?

Based of his stats for 2019(his last full season in the 42), I think he would of had at least 2 to 3 wins, double digit top 5s and double digit top 10s along with advancing to the round of 8.

His playoff ceiling would have been the same. He could have made the final four and anyone who makes it can win it. The playoff floor would be a lot lower though. By having a far worse car and having to push it far harder he'd be liable to even get bounced first round if things don't break right.

So your thinking he would have had 3 times more wins then he had in 2019? and 50% more top 5's?

I'm not as concerned about what he might have done...as I am about what is he going to do from here on out. I think as long as he has a good crew chief, a good team, and a good car he will win multiple championships. His team came through in a crunch situation and saved the bacon at Phoenix, and Larson was the first one to applaud their excellent performance. That is what makes a championship caliber team.

Ganassi is not the powerhouse on road courses like Hendrick is, so exclude all those wins. Other than Atlanta their 550 package wasn’t great either. I’d say maybe he wins at a place like Nashville, Bristol, Dover or Darlington. His stats would be something like 1 win, 9 top 5s, 17 top 10s, round of 8.

the real question is, if not Larson, who would’ve been in the 5 this year?

in VL after Kyle won the championship I posted a video in the JG Boss Thread about Gordon hanging out with Larson during the championship celebrations and Jeff told Kyle something along the lines of "You're going to break my F*cking records." I love you're post, I am more excited to see what Kyle and the 5 can do in the future.

I enjoyed the video you linked there. It was pretty awesome.

Honestly.

Larson probably finishes 9th in points, 2 wins, 7 top 5s.

Those cars were weak the first half of the season

Larson is a difference maker. But in the gen 6? 550? LOL, a driver can only do so much.

Honestly, Larson is a non factor in the 42 this year.
