One dumb NASCAR take that I hear constantly, that needs to die is that "NASCAR needs to go back to REAL cars"

They haven't been production cars since 1967!. Ever since, they'vs basically been purpose built race cars, and yes that includes the Charger Daytona/Plymouth Superbird AND Ford Torino Talladega, which were specifically designed for NASCAR. Make no mistake about it, those cars, with their streamlined appearance and use of aerodynamic devices such as a rear wing, were designed to be race cars.

The only reason those cars were even sold to the public at all, was because NASCAR rules at the time, required at least 500 of the cars to be produced and sold to the general public for a car to be approved for NASCAR competition

The Gen4 was the raciest, after some safety improvements I loved it.

Yeah, that's typically why I don't bother to read any comments on facebook or whatever when it relates to NASCAR. You always have some simpleton geezers commenting "back when racing was real racing" or "back when they drove real cars" or "back when the drivers were real men".....blah bah blah.

Hell, just look at the height of NASCAR's popularity in the 90's, you had the Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, and Taurus. Their real life counterparts were all front-wheel-drive, the two GM cars weren't sold with a V8, and the Taurus wasn't sold in coupe form. What was "real" about those cars?

People are stupid.

I think that's still a rule. I remember it being discussed a few years ago when Chevy fielded the SS.

"back when the drivers were real men"
I love that one. If the Allisons could have had power steering, Cale a cool suit, or Pearson a fitted seat, do you think they would have turned them down? "Hell no, that's not how we real men race! I want to be as uncomfortable as possible!" Those 'real men' didn't use those things because they didn't have a choice, not because they chose to not use them.

Very, very random observatio.

Corey Lojoies having his “Kickball Klassic” today and Logano posted a clip of him kicking left footed. Just interesting that he theoretically drives with his non dominant foot.

...I mean cars aren't really set up to drive with your other foot.
