Electric NASCAR - official talks

 I really think if they think they have lost lots of viewers before, they will REALLY suffer a setback with this. IMO they need to delay this as much as possible. Can't imagine attending a silent race with no vibration in your chest as they fly by? Or the smells of high octane exhaust fumes? One new thing would be when they scrape the wall or have a big one you will be able to hear the crunching metal and worse if there is a significant injury with the driver still conscious.
Since there is an influx of self driving vehicles coming are we going to go that route as well? Who needs drivers?

I can easily imagine being able to talk to my friends and other fans.

Any NASCAR sanctioned electric series would likely be completely separate from the existing IC series. If people don’t want to watch, no problem. There are plenty of series I don’t watch, for a variety of reasons - F1, motorcycles, etc.

Oh yay.... . Can be done at most tracks that are not short.

But we all know where it's headed in the name of protecting the environment. If ICE are eventually eliminated like some sectors want, there won't be a series with those elements of excitement.

I was watching an Formula-E race on CBS the other week and, while the racing itself was thrilling, I just couldn't get over the sound. Like, it seriously sounded like a bunch of R/C cars going around a parking lot.

Everything about electric is better performance wise. The only real downside is storing that electric as batteries are heavy and slow to charge, but the potential for torque and HP is so much higher in electric motors than an IC engine. If people really need the engine noise they can do that with speakers but the noise doesn't make the car go round so who cares? Once they get the battery situation figured out they won't be making IC engines anymore.

The noise has as much impact on the racing as the number placement. It's a side effect of the IC engine, literally a waste product.
