RACE thread ---- The Open and the All-Star

They have settled their ilk on the car this week.
It’s wild. Imagine being a casual fan going to your first race because you heard about “this Wilkesboro place”, ended up going and not only going but enjoying yourself ….then you logging onto socials and seeing the race you just were at get trashed. This fan base is mental, they don’t know what they want. I knew if there weren’t wrecks, constant beating and banging then a Royal Rumble on pit road between drivers after, they were gonna cry. Watch a old race from here on YouTube, it was always strung out with tire conservation and team strategy key to surviving. Some of these folks need to get a grip, they’re the reason we have a bastardized Atlanta

no man I fall on deaf ears when I say I don't drool over short track races because so many are follow the leader single file races, Larson put on a clinic tonight and there was nothing wrong with his car, or any of the rest of them.

He started from last, passed the entire field when others couldn’t find grip then proceeded to beat them up all night. I thought that was impressive, and I’m not saying that because Larson is my avatar. I would have given major props to anyone that did that, I try to appreciate greatness when it’s there

I don’t know if you all saw this tweet but this has led me to believe this experiment will be lasting a bit

The booth was going on and on about how the track was just brutal...meanwhile I was watching Larson go from the back to the front like it was nothing lol. It was comical. You give Larson something to be excited about and he is lights out. He did that with dirt late models, never driven one, jumped in and won the race.

I think he did hold himself accountable, for what it's worth. He ****** up. He knew he ****** up. He was ignorant, and had to learn

Larson seems like a good guy and he seemed genuinely remorseful.

But he re-emerged in the best car in the garage and the sport and media just pretend it never happened. There’s also the explosion in his fan base after it happened. That bothers me.

I honestly don’t know what the solution could have been. Maybe make him sit out 2021? Rule him ineligible for points in 2021? Neither of those are perfect.

I get that these kind of things are hard and accountability is hard. You can’t stop HMS from hiring Larson and you can’t stop him from being good at his job.

Was it the best car though? They hadn’t won anything with Jimmie in like three years before Larson took over the 48(became the 5, when KL signed. Cliff was there with JJ) in 21.

Hendrick has always had hot and cold periods but they consistently bounce back. They were light years ahead of CGR.

And Hendrick literally won the championship the year before Larson joined.

It seems no one really knows what fans want. Even the fans. So hear me out here as I have a solution for a new track, though obviously it would take a ton of land etc. How about a high banked figure 8 restrictor plate race. 2 miles each direction with Dega-Like banking.

You want wrecks you got it.
:owquitit: :owquitit: :pbjtime: ;) :punkrocke :punkrocke :sarcasm::XXROFL::XXROFL::whoopee:

All facts, I just remember seeing many folks weren’t thinking Larson to HMS was going to be the slam dunk it turned out to be. He leveled up sure, but the 48 wasn’t good. I don’t think the 24 was good either in 2020. Bowman won a few

Andy the self appointed short track expert wasn't around then. He watches the undercard races where they can't run 5 laps without a caution
I was around then

EVERY race at Martinsville and Richmond and places like them (North Wilkesboro, London, Phoenix, St. Louis) suck with this piece of **** car.

good luck with that losing attitude.
So you’re denying the FACT that this short track package sucks? You’re denying that it’s not something basically everyone in the garage is speaking out about?

Dale Jr even spoke out about the short track package. Even Fox was critical of the racing it’s produced.

I wonder how much horsepower those Late Model Stock and Pro Late Models have.
Late Model Stocks have been going through this phase where they’re running bigger carbs and bigger motors and more horsepower and the racing, amazingly, keeps getting better.

Let’s put 950 horsepower in these Cup cars and get them off the ground and see what we can do.

Finally home…. I’ll choose my words carefully as to not upset the mob, but if they honestly want a full blown points race (or even all star again) they MUST improve a lot of fan experience items and parking situations for fans. It’s inexcusable to be without phone or WiFi for a weekend if you attend, much less rely on trams to get you 1.5 miles to your car/parking lot yet not before e any order or lines for them whatsoever. It was chaos leaving and bad enough that when combined with the next Gen car package I would never go back, and up until maybe 10 laps into the race I was having the time of my life all weekend.

Larson’s team must have been running a different “package” than everyone else.

1) why tf doesn’t NASCAR and Racing Electronics encrypt the radios?
2). No excuse for that. None. But. Apparently “embracing our mountain and moonshiner heritage!” this weekend had to go ALL in…
The radios are encrypted. However, a scanner shows the said frequency and you can still have bleed over. You can guess on either side with a Private Line or Digital Private Line code. These teams also have digital only channels that no one outside of the respected team can access, so its not like what you see on RE scanners on a week to week basis. Some people get lucky with a janky scanner or something of the sort finding out what the respected codes are.

However, its not the first time its been seen. I was at the Coke 600 last year and assholes found a way there to bleed into Bubba's radio. I just happened to listen it to it live.

This is a few steps beyond what I'm capable of atm.

not going to happen
Which at this point doesn't make a whole lot of sense. They reduced to attract new OEM's. Where are they? All is quiet on that front and we haven't heard a peep in probably 2 years. And when we did it was only about Dodge who is now going electric next year. If it was for cost cutting then that's the line they should've fed us. I think Hamlin has said himself there really isn't any more money to be saved at this point. Might as well let these engine builders try some stuff.

This kind of **** is why NASCAR’s growth has stagnated. NASCAR’s fanbase is its biggest barrier to growth. No one wants to be associated with trash.
Hey, they guy in front of me tonight with the cut off “support your local whorehouse” tee shirt seemed ok! He only kinda booed Bubba! 🙄. I’m being somewhat sarcastic but he really was wearing that. They booed a lot of guys. Ty Gibbs got it pretty bad, as well as Logano, Hamlin, and Busch. But man did Bubba get it several magnitudes worse. It was almost universal. To the point if I had 23XI gear on I would have been nervous. Very cringe indeed. I heard a lot of “ I boo because he’s such an a-hole” arguments tonight, but it was eye rolling. I was waiting for the “I can’t be racist, I have a black friend at work” argument.

We have a problem with racers and teams using those Baofeng radios and getting on our Raceceiver frequency.

Thanks for the info. I deleted my comment because I was worried about wading into this, but screw it. A bunch of aholes gave the area I live near a huge black eye tonight.

It isn't going to happen. The reasons have been stated many times, but some of the hard heads will never get it. :idunno:
