Bonehead of the week: North Wilkesboro

I own my scanners instead of rent, but they're the standard RE 3000s and yes they show frequency numbers under driver name and car number. Out to maybe 3 or 4 decimal points? I can't remember off hand.
I have one of the tiny REs that fits in your pocket. I also have the Radio Shack dinosaur headphones like the crew uses and a Radio Shack Pro 89 Race Scanner. I use the scanner for the weather and to listen in on police calls in addition to drivers. I recall programming the Nascar channels from information published on the internet. I checked for changes every race. I haven't used either in ages so I have no idea what's going on with them now.

The RE3000 and the discontinued RE Legend can be auto-programmed wirelessly if you're near a Racing Electronics trailer. The RE Legend can be programmed over WiFi too.

I wish NASCAR could've bought FanVision so you could also get on board video and stuff from the Legend.

Yeah, I program over the air every year the first race I attend. As soon as I see a RE trailer I turn it on and program. Is the Legend the hybrid of the FanVision and the RE3000 that they pushed for like a year or so?

Yes, it is. They discontinued it in 2020 and were encouraging people to trade their Legend scanners in for the RE3000.

Even without the Fanvision bells and whistles, I like how the Legend works with the touchscreen interface, FM radio tuner, WiFi and all that. I've got Race Monitor on mine as well. It's basically an Android phone.
