Cup RACE thread --- Daytona

Worst wreck I've ever seen, & then there's the Blaney crash. The fact that they walked away is a testament to the safety of the new car.

I am waiting for people to use the Preece wreck to continue the “Next Gen is unsafe!” hysteria.

Improvements can ALWAYS be made but these cars are damn safe.

How Ty Dillon keeps getting opportunities to drive anything is beyond me
I really don’t expect him to be back in the 77 next year. Especially if Gainbridge goes full time along with some Andretti ownership.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

Do an extreme sport during your sport’s season, don’t be surprised when it impacts your championship hopes.
I don't think it's all down to the snowboarding accident ("extreme sport" lol), he had several months to score points and win races but he just didn't perform even though his teammates did and that braindead move at Charlotte also didn't help.
I'm glad he didn't win today btw. The conspiracy theories would've gone through the roof.

I always knew Chris Buescher would break out, but not like this. Three wins in five races, I honestly think he's a legit championship contender.

Brad Keselowski knows what he's doing with that team. Good for him. He's one of the more likeable drivers in the field.

Kyle Busch had a similar wreck to Preece in 2007 and he hopped right out.

Drivers walked away from wrecks like that, no issue.

Gen 7 took a step backwards. This is so ****** wrong.

I would be interested in telemetry data. That was violent. He had no chance to scrub off speed before going airborne.

You have to keep cars on the ground.

Pretty much everyone here should know, but I have watched preece dozens and dozens and dozens of times in person in the east. Watched him grow through modifieds. Have his picture and autograph. Talked conversations with the guy in pit parties.

Please if anything hears anything post it/pm me.

Pagenaud had a concussion after his flip at Mid-Ohio and I obviously hope Preece won't have one (or any other injury).

This was a severe wreck but flips are usually not prone to cause severe injuries because the energy is dissipated continuously and not all at once. Head-on crashes and driver's side hits are normally where severe injuries can happen because of the sudden impact.

I am positive I would have had a helmet full of throwup after all those barrel rolls.
Preece walked to the stretcher, I am cautiously optimistic.

I just look at that and see the G forces and believe there could be something more serious injuries than a concussion.

Kyle’s crash was no where near as bad as this one. Kyle was sliding on his roof for a while before he started barrel rolling which scrubbed off a ton of speed unlike preece.

Totally different barrel rolls. Ryan’s we’re much more violent

This was less violent than Ricky Rudd in 1984, similar to Rusty at Daytona in 1993, DW in 1991 Sadler in 03, Kyle Busch in 07.

I just kind of don't want to hear it. A wreck like that wasn't sending a driver to a hospital 6-12 years ago.

All last year we have drivers expressing concerns regarding safety and taking a step backwards. Concussions from minor wrecks.

When was the last time a driver flipped in a barrell roll and WASNT interviewed prior to end of coverage and ended up in the hospital.

I'm not taking anything away from the violence of that crash. But drivers have walked away from crashes like that without requiring further medical care for at least a decade.

There's no reason, other than an unsafe car that has regressed, Preece should be hospitalized.

The racing product is declining, and safety is apparently too.

The thing to me how little time Preece had to scrub off speed. This was WAY worse than the blow overs we had in the 2000s.
Elliott Sadler flipped on pavement and was sideways at a higher rate of speed than Preece was here. Chris Bell in the Trucks a handful of years as well..similar flips. Even more air.

Sorry. I don't buy "this wreck was an exception".

If this wreck happened exactly as is in the late gen 4, COT, or gen 6, the driver is just fine and isn't transported to a local hospital.

He would have easily outpaced the 23 on points even without a win. Like was said, play stupid games…

Insane stuff from Buescher. He had to wait forever to get back into victory lane, then goes and does what he’s done this last month. I’m with you guys in thinking that he’s the dark horse contender.

Genuinely feel for Preece. He and the whole SHR bunch were looking like having a banner night on the town, then that happens. I hope he’s ok, and I still maintain that those who rate him lowly aren’t observant of the full picture. He’s had flashes of speed and brilliance, just direly needs a break.

Kyle Busch blew over immediately, he was sideways just as quick and was probably going faster. The difference was that Kyle flipped 7 times opposed to 12, due to sliding on his roof for a few.

Forgive me, but I don't think 5 flips is the difference between Kyle hopping out, and Kyle being hospitalized.

It was a terrifying wreck. Not a wreck that would have been a red flag for safety.
