The 2020 Cup Champion, 2014 Xfinity Champion, 19 time Cup winner, and the guy currently 4th in points despite driving a 15th place slug every week and overcoming terrible strategy by a crew chief that’s overstayed his welcome, has no talent?

No matter what he does people will complain. There's plenty of footage of him having a good time but catch him at the wrong moment and here we go. Plus if he was too happy people would complain that he does not care about winning. So tired of this "boring" personality complaint. Not many drivers today are different. Byron and Bowman are very vanilla. Denny Hamlin is more outspoken and people hate him for it. Winning cures all though. Once Chase gets a few more W's a lot of this will go away. Low hanging fruit right now for keyboard warriors.

Larson fans love to point this out now even though they ignored it when Chase was number one. It's not a tell all to me since many Chase fans may just not need new gear as they have plenty while Larson is getting some bandwagon jumpers. Bad thing about them they is they move on quick when things go south. Elliott fans stuck by bill though a 227 race winless streak from 09/94 - 11/01 and never lost faith that he could drive and were rewarded for it with a great career resurgence at the end.

Yea but are there any in the playoffs this year? Plus RC's are not the heart of NASCAR. Ovals are. But credit to Trackhouse for gamming the system as it must be huge for them to get another car in and credit to SVG for being great on them. Yesterday was embarrassing IMO for a driver to pull out to a 17 second lead like that when he dogged it for part of the run.

Don't waste your time on the hive mind brother. Nobody has ever said they wish their franchise QB was more of a goofball in interviews, etc, etc. That's how I know it's all BS. These same people would literally freeze if a microphone was shoved in their face on national television yet they want to be entertained by a race car driver...outside if a race car. Weird.

So it's okay for Elliott to be laid back, and TV may not always catch his personality at its best, but Byron and Bowman are vanilla. I guess they don't get the same considerations.

No. That's not what I am saying. To me everyone should get the same slack but I just don't see any complaints about guys like Byron and Bowman when their personalities do not stand out. I really feel like a lot of people misunderstand Chase. Not that I know the guy, I just feel like I understand his sarcasm. At the press conference after the Glenn when Larson used him up and he said "I'm sure it's my fault somehow" I felt like I related to him more than ever because that's something I'd say. Again though, I am not a delusional fan that thinks I know him - just my best guess. I guess the spotlight will always be brighter on Chase because he is MPD.

LOL - Too much logic there. It's been fun having the Max package to see more of Chase's race craft - especially on the RC's - I feel like he must have passed as many cars or close to it as almost anyone other than maybe Bell. Dude can wheel a car and anyone who does not think so is just not paying attention. He needs to continue to improve on restarts but he is just not as aggressive as these restarts call for and he even talked about it after the race Sunday. He's also not a great qualifier but he's a great smooth rhythm racer.

Not in the Next Gen. He has the same stuff as Larson. I forgot that Alan is the problem in the Chasey World.

He isn't what he was pre Next Gen. Anybody who starts mid pack to the back is going to pass cars.....or should. Chasey is okay, but he isn't great. Nobody fears him....especially Larsony.

It isn't just that. Where is he with the Netflix stuff? Above it? I'd say so. The sport's Most Popular driver won't play. Must be resting on that immense talent. Look, I hate the driver centric stuff, but that is what the fans who are whine about, and Chasey gives them the finger. If you aren't winning, and you aren't playing, what are we doing here?

He isn't, he just is surprisingly a loser. I really expected more from him. I still expect he will get a win or two in his career but I no longer seem him as someone that is a threat to win every weekend like his teammates Bell and Hamlin. More like a Suarez or Buescher.

I love my boy Matt, and his dry wit was an acquired taste that many who even noticed didn't always enjoy. But let's not overlook his taking out Logano at Martinsville in one of the most cold-blooded retaliations in the sport's history.

But there are tons of examples of success not translating to popularity, and popularity not equating to talent

Yeah, and up until that point, he was considered to be as vanilla as it gets. Kind of proves my point. Being a relatively boring interview doesn't make any of these guys "vanilla"

Not being on social media doesn't mean they're boring either. People forget that at the height of his popularity, MPD Dale Jr. stayed away from having a social media presence.

There are also those drivers (and other people) who have zero interest in being in the public eye. Race, do your sponsor obligations, go home. That doesn't mean they're boring.

It's not exactly late breaking news hat Chase has had issues in the next gen car. He himself has said it but he still has like 6-7 wins in it and easily could have won more if luck fell his way. I am also not sure what you are saying about others being able to pass. It's pretty common with rare exception of late that passing is hard. We see many examples of this like with Gibbs this weekend. Looked like he had the only car to POSSIBLY compete with SVG and as soon as he got back in traffic he went no place fast and in fact Chase left him in the dust. I also don't understand the constant bringing up of Larson. Larson is who he is - he's a great driver and he's going to tear stuff up a lot more than he should. Not much criticism out there for that though. The double last year was a disaster not of his making but this year was a disaster of his making. I point out that Chase is not a great qualifier and needs to be more aggressive at times. Especially on restarts but the Larson faithful just seem to ignore the holes in his game because winning is all that matters apparently today. I just don't subscribe to that. No matter how you feel about Chase though it's hard not to criticize AG. It just seems like he is not aggressive enough on calls and the crew does not respond to him well enough to execute consistently. Chase probably wins Kansas if they gave him one good stop. He may have competed for the win at Michigan had the strategy been better. He drove great races in these cases but winning only happens if everything goes right. Another thing I like about Chase is that he will take responsibility when it is on him like with the 600. He messed up one restart at the end that cost him a shot to win and he owned it.

I think it's a false assumption to just think he feels he is above it. As a fan it does not bother me. Would I like to see him on there? Sure but I understand he moved back to Dawsonville for privacy and that's what he wants. His father was the same way and the fans did not fault him for it.

Trying to figure out how a driver in a driver centric sport resists the spotlight. Awesome Bill wasn't in the sport with the immediacy of media like his kid. There is a way to get privacy.

I'll tell you where he ain't, he's not on Twitch or iracing sticking his ****** foot in his mouth with racial slurs and the like. I'll take that over this personality that you all suddenly so desire.

Remember the Kyle Busch checkered flag bow after claiming the bounty? The burnout in the same tire barrier he crashed in at the roval? The bird finger to Kyle at Darlington. These were all pretty memorable moments for a guy with no spice. Y'all are just weird when it comes to the guy, straight up.

I just don't think he completely avoids the spotlight. I think he draws a line at home. The Netflix thing required them to be in his home for a while and I think he even said he would think about doing it if the chance came up again but he really likes his space at home. As mentioned above, he does some things that welcome the spotlight. The burnout in the same tire battier he crashed into after winning the Roval is my favorite now because of the "Are you not entertained" meme. LOL

Right? I guess it's because he's MPD and there will just be people who hate on that but I just find his personality really likeable. He seems like he'd be a cool hang. Not the life of the party but just a chill dude with some wit and sarcasm. My kind of people. LOL. I see him and Blaney to be similar really (which is probably why they get along so well) but I see no issues people have with Blaney's personality.
 
Just finally got to watch the race. Was shocked to see how empty the stadium section was right behind the booth. That area looks cool as heck
