Back in the day, being in SVG’s position was insignificant. Now with six road courses plus a reset with 10 races to go, he’s golden. Back in the day, sucking on road courses was also insignificant. I don’t hate the player, I hate the game.

Justin Marks hired SVG with the idea of him making the playoffs with a win on one of the RC's. I don't think he expected his rookie driver to have four wins before the playoffs.

I think improving on ovals is easier than mastering the road courses.

With the 22 playoff points, there's a legitimate chance SVG makes the final 8.

Guys like Marcos Ambrose and Sam Hornish came from IndyCar, IIRC. SVG came from a car that is similar to Gen 7.

Will SVG ever have winning pace on ovals? That is yet to be seen, it's definitely a possibility though.

AJ can have decent runs at tracks where he has to use the brake like a road course such as Martinsville, but yeah…he, JPM, Ambrose and Hornish just never became decent oval races.

There's also a chance he then wins Martinsville as I have said before, it is supposedly driven somewhat like a road course. And then the other 3 crash out at Phoenix with him becoming the first rookie champion of the modern era with a 30th place finish clinching the championship at Phoenix. I wonder if they would change anything then?
 
Four types of tracks. Equal share on each track makes sense to me. Instead, the stars get their asses kicked and the Winston Cup fans come out of the woodwork to cry about how there are too many road courses. Chasey pulls what SVG does, and the story is different IMO. We even give the stars the cheat sheet (SMT), a team of engineers, expensive sim, and equal cars; and they still can't figure it out. Cry about the car? SVG seems to be able to make it work. I hear regularly on NASCAR Radio that Cup drivers are the best in the world. Nope. Just not. SVG isn't winning by a couple of seconds. He is literally crushing the field, and making Cup drivers look extremely silly. Then, fans puff their chests out, and say, "Wait until the ovals."

Okay, I'm having trouble determining how much of your last two posts are sarcastic vs. sincere. I can state that agree with what I've quoted above.

Having nine road course races wouldn't bother me at all EXCEPT that under your plan, that means there would be nine plate races. As much as I love twisties, I'd sacrifice all of them if that was the exchange to get rid of plate races too.

They have 6 "plate" tracks now. All are good in attendance at track and TV.

Of course he's making Cup drivers look silly...he's trained his whole life on road courses!

One of the best in the world…at road courses. Until he starts doing well on ovals, there’s not really an argument to be made about him being one of the best in general. But then again, that’s just my opinion. If we’re talking about best all around driver…I’d even put Zilisch above SVG at this point.

Gotta be honest, if we aren’t talking NASCAR, I don’t know the drivers achievements.

But I suppose the best in the world is subjective when talking about racing. You could be the best F1 driver in the world, the best Indycar driver in the world and the best NASCAR driver in the world. But how you can determine the best racer in the world…well I don’t know.

Zilisch is definitely up there as well. He has to clean up some mistakes but he’s a very well rounded driver. I would love to see Zilisch make a V8 supercar start someday.

I'd be delighted if NASCAR added more road courses and dropped every oval over 1.4 miles. Add Daytona, Pocono, and Indy infields; Road America, Barber, Laguna Seca, and MoSport. Run WG twice.

Tough to say since they never ran on ovals.

Everyone has their own definition of 'best'. I suggest substituting 'most well rounded'. Of the top series, IndyCar has the most balanced mix of tracks, so Alex Palou should be in the conversation. Tony Stewart was successful at ovals, plate / pack racing, and road courses; on dirt and pavement; in sprint cars, open wheeled cars, stock cars; and now drag racing. Sounds like a top-tier resume to me.

As far as Shane being one of the best in the world, I'd agree he's one of the best on road courses in a closed-wheeled car. As to Zilisch vs. SVG, Shane has better balance. :p
