Cup RACE thread --- Charlotte Roval

This whole playoff and cutline thing has gotta be so stressful on these drivers and teams. As if running at this level isn't stressful enough.

I have no idea how they came up with either one of these.

;) Man I wished that worked for Ross, eliminate Joey and show the absurdity that the “playoffs” cause
After the Hail Melon, we’d never hear anything else if he would have pulled that off too. And probably would have sealed the deal on us getting another decade of playoffs.

Cool tha he hit Hamlin though.

Ok, one top ten the entire season. When he starts making a habit of it, I will pay more attention to him.
I think we'll hear more from him at Vegas; like Kansas, it's another 1.5-miler. Talladega is anyone's race. Martinsville is enough like Loudon that I expect him to do well there. He won't compete for wins but he'll be much better at each remaining track than he was for each track's first race of the season.

I'll go out on a limb and predict two more top 15 finishes for him this season.

Logano gets through again.
There's no doubt in my mind he's a championship-calibre driver, but I really wish we'd get back to rewarding the whole body of work instead of the events of one race.
That’s it too. Joey would win a title in any format, his talent exceeds whatever system is used to crown a champion and his team is that good. It’s a shame folks on socials are saying he wouldn’t be a champion in a full season format. That’s false, he’s just that good. It’s the system that needs changing, Joey did nothing wrong but excel in a flawed system geared to reality tv and capturing the eyeball of the ever so fleeting, but elusive casual fan.

They’ve gamed this format much like Chase For The Cup 7 Time did before them.

Major difference: the chase format was changed multiple times to make it Jimmie proof and he still adapted.

I think he would’ve won 7 under the old system too. He almost won it in his rookie year.

Jimmie's won six
of his
and only one with the win
and you are in
crap.
(bad poetry)

I really hate all the playoff or chase versions and favor the a full 36 race point system.

But I will grudgingly admit that the last championship he won, the one utilizing the single race finale was my favorite one with the crappie format.

Not necessarily because he won the thing but more for the actual drama. There was the Carl Edwards, Logano self destruction, I think Kyle Busch's team messed up on tire or pit strategy, and Johnson the slowest of the four won the thing.

If I was trying to promote the positives of the current system that race would be my go to example.

eh. I can say Jeff Gordon would have won 7 too. We never have a way of knowing. Jimmie would have won a Cup for sure in the Winston Cup format, you're exactly right he was in it until the final month of his rookie season in 02. The exact amount? No way of knowing, but I do think Jimmie would have feasted in the Winston Cup points.
