Prior to this weekend I watched one DTM race this year. It was the Saturday Nürburgring race and it happened to be surprisingly good.
So I decided to watch this week's season finale at Hockenheim. While there wasn't any fire or ripped-out engines like two(?) years ago, it sure wasn't short of drama, especially today.
Aston Martin got their first ever pole in DTM and Gilles Magnus was holding on well until what looked like a suspension broke (I didn't pay that much attention as the F1 race had started at that point.)
The good ole politicking isn't gone btw. Jack Aitken and Jordan Pepper both got penalties late in today's race, were told to ignore them and were then parked which they ignored as well.
This created a situation where Lucas Auer was running sixth but effectively 4th in the race. Meanwhile Ayhancan Güven was leading with Marco Wittmann close behind. With Auer effectively in 4th, Güven needed the win for the championship. Embarrassingly, the commentators didn't even notice but anyway, the last lap was...
something.
