NFL 2025-26

This was the first time all season the Bucs just got throughly outplayed in every facet. Full credit to Detroit, this could be an important one when it comes to seeding later in the year.

First it was its not safe now its the can't ref it. Suck it up and deal with it.
They don’t call the umpteen different false starts we’ve seen this year and now they call forward progress while Hurts is actively stretching the ball over the 1st down marker while the Giants strip it out. They can’t officiate it properly. Can it.

Yep.

The play cannot be officiated because officials cannot see any of it.

That play in the Giants/Eagles game was 100% a fumble but because it’s the Eagles tush push, it’s actually not a fumble but a first down.

Yeah this is a joke now. Between this, the illegal formations and false starts.

I’ve been in favor of the play but it needs to be banned now.

Philadelphia is the new Kansas City.

Pushing the ball carrier from behind never should have been legalized in the first place to open the door for what originally defined the play. However, that isn't even the biggest problem with it now. It's all of these other elements of how the Eagles run it and how the officials (don't) react. A ban has become a much messier matter, because a lot of what they're getting away with is already against the rules. How are they going to rewrite rules to clean this up?

It’s pathetic how the narrative has changed 3 different times now. First it’s “not a football play”. Then it turned to “not a safe play” which was immediately debunked. Now it’s turned to it can’t be officiated. Sorry the refs can’t do their job properly? Whine whine whine. Never ends.

My favorite tush push from today is when Dak tried it against the broncos, didnt gain an inch and got flipped onto his head. Lmao.

Pushing the runner from behind shouldn't have ever been been legalized in 2005. This aspect of the play isn't a football play and should be junked again.

The Eagles still would have been the best short yardage running team in the league the last several years without being able to push Hurts.

The NFL needs to crack down on the false starts, neutral zone infractions, and so on. Clearing the rugby scrum behind the runner will help restore some balance and allow referees a clearer line of sight, but it's only part of what is going on.

I agree with basically your whole post, and I believe almost all eagles fans would. Again, it goes back to officiating it better. Don’t ban it, but officiate it better.

Eliminating the ability to push a runner would open a whole can of worms.

It's a play that can't be officiated. Because they're all in this scrum, the officials from their vantage point cannot see the illegal formations and the false starts. Those only get seen during overhead replays after the fact. And with current NFL rules, you can't challenge it. You can't call it back a minute later.

I wasn't on board with the "it's going to hurt someone" or the "it's not a football play" stuff. The inability to officiate the play is an issue, and this was starting to get called out last year, but a lot of that was largely on the back burner because of the blatant BS going on in Kansas City games.

Maybe it is as simple as “officiate better” but the play as it is now is indefensible. The defense can’t jump offsides or line up in the neutral zone, but the guards can launch early. On the off chance the defense creates a turnover, we’ll retroactively claim forward progress was stopped. If the defense survives the initial rush, we’ll let the scrum push forward for another two or three yards. You can’t defend it.
