Report: Charlotte Chase race to be run on the oval

I think it’s a fine decision, but I hope next year they manage to move another road course into the Chase. As it is now, there won’t be any such races after Sonoma at the end of June.

I vote for Road America. Or put Watkins Glen back in the Chase and race at Road America in the summer.

This is fine. I thought the ROVAL was really cool, even if the racing wasn't the best.

ROVAL legacy for me is that it is what kicked off NASCAR's aggressive schedule and track shuffling. Going to the ROVAL was a big deal in 2016 or 2017 whatever year it was.

It was 100% the correct and an innovative move at the time and was a huge hit for the first four runnings or so. It just fell victim to NextGen road racing more than anything, although this past year’s was an improvement.

I wonder how this pertains to anything that is going to happen racing this year? I don't think we will be seeing drivers racing like idiots on fire to make the cutoff. Instead drivers will be trying to keep the fenders on it in order to finish well.

Until they figure out this car, this is the right move. Road racing is easily the worst product with the Next Gen setup.

Charlotte puts on the best racing overall in the series with this car. The fall race on the oval will be must see TV.

There should definitely be a road course race in the chase though.

My vote for road course schedule:

March - Sonoma
April - Austin
June - San Diego
July 4 - Road America
August - Watkins Glen
October - Sebring

Although San Diego's probably going to be one or two and done and replaced with Cincy, Baltimore, Philly or Pittsburgh.

I could see a street race in Denver too but it's unnecessary when there is a perfectly good track an hour south.

Buescher passing SVG on the last lap at Watkins, Glen, The dual last year at the Glenn between Zilisch and SVG. The same between the 2 at Sonoma. Nascar has a couple drivers who are right up top at the best in the world and no road race in the playoffs? But they have Dega in there lol.

Kinda bummed but I get it. The roval was awesome with the last Gen car, I went to it last in 2022 and I was bored to tears. The grip levels of the new car completely ruined it, you were just searching for a battle of some kind on track to entertain yourself.

I think they need to go to places like Watkins Glen, RA and Mid Ohio with this new car. A track that doesn’t flow well with nice long straights isn’t going to put on a great show. Maybe the extra HP helps this year but we will see

The Roval is like watching IndyCar race in parking lots without the aesthetics and atmosphere.

Wasn't there a bunch of bitching and complaining that NASCAR wasn't on the oval. Isn't this what the USs wanted? .....and historically NASCAR has only had...what a couple of road courses on the schedule.....and we want to get back to our roots, right?

The Chase schedule's balance is off now with no road course. Hopefully NASCAR will swap Gateway and Watkins Glen's dates next year, which makes sense weather-wise anyway.

I wonder about those folks who have already renewed their tickets. We know they won't get refunds. If I was one of them, I'd have to consider never attending another SMI race.
Agreed. Is a good seat at the road course necessarily a good seat at the oval?

I liked The Roval and will miss it. Agree a road course is needed in the Chase. Wonder what the rationale is? Ratings? Feedback?

The 600 has been the best race of the year every year in the NextGen era.

Fans overwhelmingly been wanting the oval back.

The novelty of the Roval wore off.

Drivers and teams have soured on the Roval.

Drivers and teams were tired of getting their butts kicked by SVG. ;)

The 600 was half ruined by breaking the race up into 100 lap segments.
One day NASCAR will realize that by breaking the 600 into four segments, with points for three stage breaks instead of two, they've made the 600 the most important race on the schedule, more so than the 'Super Bowl of Racing' D500.
