RACE thread --- Duels at Daytona

My usual protest of these tracks is to make the Tony Stewart picture my profile picture, but it's Amber Glenn season.

I hate Daytona and Talladega. At least Atlanta will outgrow this nonsense after a couple more harsh winters.

Tough deal for Lajoie, but there is something about having to eliminate cars, bumping, etc.

I think racing is healthier when there are more cars than grid positions, with fewer guaranteed spots. A world where the actual event is bigger than a given driver.

I would love it if everyone had to qualify or race their way for a starting position. No mercy for anyone; make it happen or go home. A world where only the competition is sacred.

This is the first year I tried to figure out what they were trying to accomplish. I usually take a look at the format and say eek!, I'll just watch the racing, save the headache. I still can't tell who is going to the big dance and who isn't.

By the time they dropped the green, the three on the bubble were easy to identify.

The worse part to me is that Mears made the biggest mistake of the three, and made it any way.

Racing can be a lot like life at times, including the occassional senseless wtf moments.

You have to entertain the thought that Mears can win the 500 now.

I am sure he doesn't have the required lead the pack type of speed to get up front and to stay there. He would need a last lap earthquake to win the thing.

But it is Daytona pack racing, a top ten is not likely but it is still very possibile with the typical late race cautions and resets.
