Johali's Rate the Cup race --- Watkins Glen

6/10

The longer race length, higher horsepower and softer tires did help, and some of the differing strategy was interesting, but this car is still just way too "on rails" for road courses.

7.5 . I agree on Fox doing a poor job and too many commercials. Also... i don't think they mentioned SVG's sponsor a single time.

I do like how they kept the incrementals up for the last 1/4 of the race so you could watch SVG's progress even when off camera.

10. The best road course racer is a hell of a lot closer to the field on ovals than the field is to him on road courses. It. Isn't. Even. Close.
He already has more oval starts by far than any of them have career road course starts. He’s getting 30-32 oval starts a year which is more than most of them have road course races in their entire career.

I liked the race and it was a treat watching SVG do his thing. FOX’s booth is lazy & contradictory at times & seems to just mail it in. The producer & director are not getting it done either.,

8.5
At the start of the race I was hoping someone, anyone, didn't matter who, would at least keep SVG in sight and give him a run for the money. Instead we got to watch a stunning performance by the greatest road course driver in NASCAR history, bar none!! His masterful skill on a road course is unparalleled.

I can't believe some of these ratings. I thought it was a 4 at best. I thought the two most interesting things were the tent blowing onto the track and SVG coming back to win. Everything else was lame.

Hey guys, I appreciate the hyperbole, but the Ghost Of Dan Gurney is calling on line 2.
Well expecting any current fan to throw him into the discussion is a stretch. He hasn't made a start in 46 years, most current fans never even seen him race, let alone were even alive at the time.

I was around and attended races where Dan Gurney drove and I'm not so sure he could have defeated SVG under similar circumstances. Given the differences in cars from the Dan Gurney era, everything is speculative. We'll never know and if Gurney were to compete it would have been one helluva show.
