Goodyear Racing Notes: Dover Motor Speedway

NASCAR Cup Series teams head to Dover Motor Speedway this weekend for the NASCAR All-Star Race, where they will run the same Goodyear Racing Eagle left-side tire that debuted at Bristol Motor Speedway in April, and the same right-side tire used at Dover last year.

That right-side tire was designed specifically for the Monster Mile’s ever-changing concrete surface and hasn’t been used since the series visited the Delaware venue in July last year.

“Teams will be able to combine their data from Bristol in April with their running from Dover last season to optimize their setups ahead of this weekend,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager. “We are bringing a tire setup specifically designed to withstand the track’s high speeds and heavy loads, while also helping lay rubber on its concrete surface, particularly given how smooth it is.”

Goodyear Racing Eagle tires will play an enhanced role this weekend with the addition of the Pit Crew Challenge during Saturday’s qualifying session, a format that combines traditional qualifying laps with a timed four-tire pit stop to determine the starting order for the race.

Teams in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will run the same left-side tires they used earlier this season at Darlington Raceway, Rockingham Speedway and Bristol, paired with a new right-side tire designed to withstand the track’s high speeds and heavy loads. Both series will also use inner liners, as is customary on tracks one-mile and longer.

Goodyear Racing Eagle tires are also in action this weekend at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Illinois, and at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in Germany.

Hmm... I find it weird that people want the all-star race gone. I think it's a great event. I also like that they're rotating the tracks. Pretty cool concept.
I would rather have a 37th points paying race. I would just float (yearly) the location of an additional event to some one off (domestic) locations that wouldn't get typically get one of the 36 dates.

It's the same guys we see every week. What's "All Star" about it? Lately the formats have been a testing ground for NASCAR's latest innovations; Dover won't even be that. I haven't watched the last few and will likely skip this one too.

Either make it a points race so it counts for something or drop it entirely.

For me it's 2 things.

1. An "All-Star" race concept was a cool thing for the first 20 years of the event. The drivers in the ASR each year were leaps and bounds above the rest of the field given the equipment disparity back then. So it was cool to see them showcased for one night with just themselves on the track. The equipment through the field is a lot more equal now and more drivers have been added to the event so it gradually got watered down.

2. This year's event is pretty much a full distance race, with a full field starting, but without points. And it being at Dover is the most ridiculous move ever. If this is how far we've come from an All-Star Race, I don't want an ASR.

Either make it a 37th points race if we're gonna pull this crap or go back to what the All-Star Race is supposed to be (short race, top competition, rotating tracks is fine). Not a diluted full length made-for-TV event that doesn't pay points.

You people are focusing on the wrong thing. This will be the first time in many years that someone besides an Earnhardt or an Elliott will be MPD.
I'll focus on that when the vote uses a 'one fan, one vote' system instead of allowing each fan to vote daily (along with other statistically erroneous practices).

Should require a voter ID to vote only once.

Simple account registration with NASCAR. Questionable accuracy lessened.
They could also Voir Dire voters by asking "What do you think about NASCAR?" Anyone of them that can't instantly rattle off ten or more complaints about the series would obviously have no credibility and be exposed as a fake voter attempt.

TEN??? I might be hard pressed to come up with more than seven.

Wait, is that ten complaints about only Cup, or can we include Truck and O'Reilly gripes too? For that matter, if someone doesn't have a Truck or O bitch, they shouldn't be eligible either.

Well I'll be at the track enjoying my race.
That's fair and I would be also. But you got to understand why people aren't excited about it being an All Star Race. If it was still a very exclusive field, it would be different. The best of the best...but the whole field being part of it ruins that feeling. Why does people not liking that upset you? Do we have to like everything they do?

I think removing the all-star event would be a mistake. There are some of us who like the event. Not everyone shares the same opinions.

Because these are the same people week after week year after year with the same posts. If they don't like the sport stop watching already. I don't want Dover to be the all star race either, I don't like this format, but there should still be an all star race. Not everything some people dislike should be immediately discarded. NASCAR has made a lot of poor changes to things that were good for the sport because of people like this.

From what I see in this thread through. Most hate the format, and not really the All Star race. The one's saying get rid of it, more or less are saying if everyone's running just make it a points race. If they went back to winners, and some open transfers, enough to make it feel special, I am sure most of them complaining wouldn't be. They are some who will always bitch yeah. But the ones I see in here i think are all fair to the sport. Imo anyways.
