Dale Earnhardt Inc. will announce on Wednesday that it is merging with Ginn Racing, effective immediately, and will acquire all Ginn assets, including its massive headquarters, multiple sources close to DEI told ESPN.com on condition of anonymity.

Sources said the company will be known as Dale Earnhardt Inc., but that Ginn owner Bobby Ginn will remain a partner in the business.

DEI president Max Siegel will oversee the operation, and Ginn CEO Jay Frye will assist DEI executives John Story, Steve Hmiel and Richie Gilmore in sorting out personnel details, sources said.

Sources said DEI will field four fully-funded racecars in the Allstate 400 this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- the No 1 Chevrolet driven by Martin Truex, Jr., the No. 8 driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr., the No. 15 driven by Paul Menard and the No. 01 driven by Mark Martin, which formerly ran under the Ginn banner.

Sources said one of Ginn's other two former cars, the Nos. 13 or 14, essentially becomes Menard's No. 15 team, and the other team will simply discontinue operation.

it looks like DEI will be moving the motorsports portion of the team to the Ginn shop....holy crap...that big shop that DEI has built....what is going to become of it?

damn....SR is rolling.......

According to Lee Spencer:

DEI will also acquire the Ginn Racing properties in Mooresville, N.C., that include a state-of-the-art shop and 7-post machine. All four teams will work out of the facilities formerly known as Ginn Racing.

Aric Almirola is expected to be mentored by Martin and drive the No. 01 car in the events that the popular driver chooses to sit out. The status of Regan Smith, who has shared the No. 01 with Martin this season and who last week was named as the new permanent driver for Ginn's No. 14 car, has yet to be determined.

As a result of the merger, the Nos. 13 and 14 cars, which had been racing under the Ginn Racing banner, will be shelved for the time being.

Actually, the 'shop' portion of DEI is not all that large. I've been through all the departments, several times, and there is not a whole lot of room.

well its a shame....i personally feel that the building that Ginn is in is cursed.

that building has been there for as long as i can remember, and not one business thats ever been in it has been sucessful.

what happens to the DEI shops now? are they going to just sit idle?

Okay, here's a question that I should know, but don't for sure. Because both Sterling and Joe are in the top 35 in points, would that qualify them a guarenteed starting spot if they went to another team, or is it just owner points that count? (probably owner points)

the top 35 rule applies to team owners.

SR has got to feel like he's in a drum that just got kicked down the side of mount everest.

Wow...what's the big deal ??? Cursed shops, doing sr wrong...gimme a break. Can we get a little more dramatic ?? This is business, and DEI will do what it has to (as will Ginn) to make money, keep sponsorships & be successful. Tell you what, put Kyle Busch(like him or not) in the 15 & that is a pretty damn good team there. Martin, Martin, Jr, Busch. Not too shabby...and I don't think Sr would roll over knowing that Mark Martin is in a DEI car, now.

Menard probably isn't going anywhere. He has daddy's money behind him.

for how long? word is he wants some money back in the way of dropped sponsorships.

I wonder where nemechek and Marlin will go? I wonder if one of them will be in the second furniture row car for next year? And maybe the other to RCR if kyle goes to the 8 car?

I feel bad for Sterling. I've always liked him (won the 1994 Daytona 500 on my 6th Birthday in a photofinish).

He's just not competitive anymore. :(

I used to like Nemecheck also because he's from Florida, but he's got the mentalitity that he owns the track.

I hope DEI doesn't can Regan Smith. He's really a great driver, just never has had the luck in Busch.

Maybe Menard will have several more subpar finishes and drop out of the top 35 and will be replaced. He's no good, that's why he won 1 Busch race by wrecking Harvick.

I just don't wanna see the DEI facility get bulldozed or whatever they're gonna do with it now. I've been by there and though it isn't as big as other race shops like Roush & Hendrick, it is still a very nice, premier layout that any raceteam would be more than proud to have. Plus it sits on the Earnhardt Estate property, maybe they could just turn it into a museum to Dale if anything else.

Here's a thought. Two drivers that although may not be the best are still seasoned. Maybe Kyle liked the booth a little more than he thought and one of them winds up in the 45?

Now that might work if Evernham gets things sorted out with all the issues he has had this year. He supplies the engines for Petty if my memory serves me correctly. It would be interesting to see Kyle B. in a ride that is less than premier, to see if he could do anything with it, with him being the great driver everyone seems to think he is.

DEI is talking with Martin about driving the #8 car next year. That may possibly open up the #01 car for Regan Smith, at least I hope so.

Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Ginn Racing Merge; Official Announcement: Dale Earnhardt Inc. has become even stronger through a merger with Ginn Racing. Effective immediately, the team will feature the Chevys of #15-Paul Menard, #1-Martin Truex Jr., #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr., #01-Mark Martin and #01-Aric Almirola. Martin and Almirola will combine to drive the #01 Army Chevy for the remainder of the 2007 season as well as the entire 2008 season. Menard drives the Menards Chevy, Truex drives the Bass Pro Shops Chevy and Earnhardt handles driving duties of the Budweiser Chevy. All four entries are inside the top 35 in Nextel Cup points heading into this weekend's Brickyard 400. Regan Smith, who was originally slated to drive the Ginn Clubs and Resorts Chevy in the Brickyard 400, will instead compete in the Craftsman Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park Friday night in the Ginn Resorts Chevy Silverado. Specific schedules for Martin, Smith and Almirola will be announced later. In addition to Nextel Cup Series competition, the company will continue to field entries in the Busch Series, the Busch East Series and will analyze its future involvement in the Craftsman Truck Series. The numerous teams of Dale Earnhardt Inc. will operate from both the original facility built by Dale and Teresa Earnhardt as well as the nearly 180,000-square-foot facility currently housing Ginn Racing's teams. The buildings are less than five miles apart in Mooresville, N.C. Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s current management team will be responsible for all day-to- day activities and transition plans have already begun to develop. John Story, vice president of motorsports operations for DEI will oversee the expansion of the company's racing efforts. In completing this merger, points on Ginn Racing's #13 car, which was 34th in Nextel Cup owner's points, have been eliminated.(Dale Earnhardt Inc PR)(7-25-2007)

Marlin says he still has a contract with Ginn, which know belongs to DEI. He said he has a couple of offers, but cannot take either of them until his Ginn contract is resolved. He's either being held up or using this as an excuse to keep from taking one of these offers.

Menard is signed on with DEI through at least next year. He, Truex, and Martin will be 3 of the 4 drivers for next year. It will be interesting to see what becomes of Smith and Amirola.

Generally, this is a big PRO for both sides. Ginn brings technology and DEI brings the name. The "to be filled" 8 spot is a big player here. I don't think Almirola or Smith will pilot that car next year, but I don't count on Menard being there next year either. Contracts or no, Menard has always been tight with Robby Gordon, who is looking to add another team. Now that the DEI/Ginn merger has gotten so big, Menard might want to get in somewhere else...his past business relationships with RGM might prove to be the deciding point. That would leave the 15 open for Smith/Almirola and the 8 open for someone else. Now that the teams have merged, it might be a better option for Kyle Busch than either DEI or Ginn were separately.

The whole damn thing just went **** house.

I think Menard will go with Robby Gordon. I can't be objective about Kyle Busch, so I'll just hush. LOL I hope Almirola does not get left out in the cold.

Menard will fall out of the top 35 and fail to qualify in races, just like now.

Is that because it's hard for you to admit that Kyle was the best thing to ever happen to the #5 Kelloggs car...

DEI and Ginn working out details on switch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sources said that over the next few weeks officials from DEI and Ginn Racing will work out details on which employees will be retained. Martin will use engines prepared by Hendrick Motorsports at Indianapolis, then switch to engines built by the new partnership between DEI and Richard Childress Racing in subsequent events. Ginn Racing had been leasing engines from Hendrick Motorsports. Also left unclear, for now, is the status of Ginn development drivers Jesus Hernandez, Kraig Kinser and Ricky Carmichael. -- Charlotte Observer

Charlotte Observer | 07/25/2007 | DEI adding Mark Martin<br> to its driver roster

hmmmm maybe they will give the #8 up now...seems to me they now own the #13...would be kinda cool to include the 1 and the 3 to make 13 since 2 of their cars are #1's (1 & 01) and the team is named after Dale Sr (#3).

Along with some of you, I also get the feeling that DEI is going to complete this power play by announcing Kyle Busch in the 8 (or whatever number that team will go by?)

I know that Kyle and Mark Martin have a lot of mutual respect. I don't know...just a thought.

I think that is where Kyle will end up also. I think if he does maybe he and Jr should go ahead and switch this year and get it over with.

Kyle only goes to Penske if Hornish stays in IRL. They have already said Hornish will be their third driver. I haven't heard of Ganassi being a player.
