Yeah, I always tear up during the pre-race...thinking back to those years when I sat out under the old Maple tree with my Dad listening to the 500 on a portable radio (pre-TV coverage days). Dad would chart the race on his clipboard and I would eat watermelon and pull for A.J.

As much as I complain about Tony George messing up American open wheel racing with the "split"...I can't miss the 500. I hope Gomer is doing OK and it's a safe race.

Sonds like the heat could be a factor this year - and "debris on the track"...meaning cars with Lotus engines :p. Go Helio!!!!
 
There are so many drivers to root for this year: TK, Will Power, Hinch, Hildebrand, Andretti, Rahal, Simona, Newgarden... I just hope we end up with a first time Indy 500 winner.
 
As the race goes one, we're going to have to watch for something that hasn't been an issue for years, and that's mechanical failure. The classic effects of a 500 mile race are back in the discussion.
 
I have Will Power, Briscoe, Hinch and TK on-board cameras running on the computer. ESPN and ABC have hit the spot for race-day experience today!
 
To be honest, not sure how I feel about that. Taps during the per-race ceremonies is a long standing tradition. But not sure how I feel about adding the focus on Dan Weldon during this moment.

Yeah - I think I'll pull for a 1st time winner this year too - Helio has won three so he doesn't need this one. A Hildebrand win would make a nice story after last year.

Hold it! We can't start the race! Who's gonna say Boogity boogity boogity? :XXROFL:
 
Barfield says that the start of the 500 will look different than it has in recent years. One can only assume that means he'll make sure the cars hold formation coming to the green?
 
Although I am far less interested in this race due to Danica not running I will be keen to watch.:)
 
And there's usually a runaway leader by now, this race is wide open! This looks like some of the old Daytona races with the constant slingshots!

ABC brought their A+ game today.

Better than normal perhaps but I like it when they cross the line side be side.
