Some D500 thoughts

I'm not knowing really what to expect for the Cup race after watching last nights Truck race. Truck = inside line. Cup=outside line. Of course this can all change in a heartbeat. Danica chose to start the outside line for the 500. I wonder if that team is second guessing their decision after watching last nights race? I don't know if they are already locked into their decision or not. Another thing, the Truck race had a lot of grip running at night that won't be the luxury of the Cup cars come Sunday. Perhaps today's Nationwide race will be a better indicator of what the racing may be like tomorrow? I think this will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

For sure .This new car is going to take a year to evolve into a great racecar . Meantime these first few races are going to be a learning experience . I saw the trucks using both lanes at times , the Onion used it quite well to give Sauter the win. The middle lane seems to be really dangerous , there seems to be a lot more air coming off the sides of these cars.Ryan Newman suggested that shark fin should be shaved down to take air away from the sides and redirect it over the spoiler.
 
The trucks and nationwide cars both have completely different chassis than a Gen-6 car so it's hard to predict what we'll see on Sunday by watching those races. I know the nationwide cars can still do the tandem draft for extended periods and we saw some of it in the truck race last night. We could see tandem drafting at some point Sunday to get a car loose or as an attempt to wreck the lead car but that's about all you can do because of the way the cars line up. I think the outside is still the best place to be for Danica because she'll be able to slide back to the rear of the field a lot easier from there. She may try to get out front early but if that doesn't work for some reason I think she'll just ride around until the end and that might not be a bad strategy with all the wrecks this week.

As a Ravens fan I am excited to see Ray wave the green flag, but I'm also ready for Ray to away quietly from the spotlight.

I couldn't agree more. The guy is a lowlife who was involved with a murder that won't stop telling everyone how great god is.

Plus it's not like the race is in Baltimore but this is the issue we have nowadays, people are more entertained by these so called "celebs" NASCAR should have went to Make a Wish and let one of those kids get a grand tour of the Daytona 500 and let him/her wave the green flag.

Yeah, it could have been worse!!

The real test for the Gen6 car will come when they get to non-plate tracks especially the 1.5 milers, where downforce is so important. The dreaded Aero Push will rear it's ugly head at those tracks, I am afraid.

Destructor plate racing is never a good indicator of a driver's skill or a car's effectiveness. I'm expecting a wild race because the cars still have too much grip so drivers are compelled to drive around with their foot thru the firewall, even though the aerodynamic qualities of the cars make them quite unpredictable in large packs.

Everyone runs the same speed and there is no way around the fact that this magnifies any mistake, and results in calamity. I'll be watching with my hands over my eyes, while peeking thru slightly separated fingers, in anticipation of "disaster". :sne:

I was ready for Ray to fade away long ago. I was disgusted when the NFL didn't tell him he wouldn't be reinstated without a letter from the DA attesting to his full cooperation in convicting those murderers.
