The mainstream sports media still doesn't get it...

I live in SoCal and I lovingly refer to the track in Fontana as Fontucky. That being said, I truly wish that Roger Penske had chosen to build Bristol West as opposed to Michigan West. But I also understand that he wanted a track that could host not only NASCAR but his INDY cars as well.

I wish he had built Darlington west.

I lived in Fontana (I always heard "Rivertucky" back in the day) for a year in the 80s when the only thing west of Cherry Ave was the mill (the east side was four liquor stores), what a dump but at least they can always claim The Hell's Angels and Sammy Hagar.

Boy has that area changed - The communities up against the foothills used to be distinct and separated by arroyos which were crazy to cross (on Baseline) during rainstorms but if you had the speed you'd hydroplane all the way instead of dying and making the evening news. Now they are almost wall to wall suburbia but when I was kid Etiwanda and Cucamonga were sleepy little crossroads, Etiwamda with a small black community (same over to the east in N Fontana). On the way out to race motorcycles in the desert we'd always stop there because there was a guy with a little camper who sold BBQ and had the best damn beef jerky I've ever had. It was shaped kinda like a twisted slim jim but tasted like prime beef, we called em "steak rope".

I think I could live in Ranch Cucamonga now.,...well in the BassPro shop to be more specific. :D
