Don't Count Danica Out From Winning At Sonoma Or Watkins Glen

I don't think that she needs to win races though . Junior doesn't. She just needs to run like Juan Pablo , and her sponsors will be quite happy.

Ok Ted if your fishing I will be the first to bite(LOL).

The comparison to Jr. and Danica is way out there. Jr has two championships in the Busch series and 23 wins in that series. He did it the right way worked his way up. He has 19 wins and almost 200 top tens in the Cup series.
He is in the top 10 in points right now. Danica's record..........................................................................................?
Now if you were referring to he hasn't won Yet this year then .......... 7 top 10's and 3or 4 top 5's. and 4th in points.

so IMO there is no comparison at all.

Your looking at apples and oranges you are looking at his record for 10? Years or so. She has been racing for less than a year lets see what she is like in 10 years

You're right about that. I'm sure the sponsors are more than happy with her even right now, considering all the hype and attention she gets despite running mostly towards the back. I'm sure they don't expect too much of her at the moment.

I just wonder what things will look like for her a few years down the road. As Greg kind of touched on earlier about Paul Menard, the days of drivers getting long amounts of time to develop and improve are, for ththeme most part, long gone. Nowadays, I feel like a sponsor sees a promising young rookie and they're all like, "yeah, we've got your back, so long as you go out there and WIN EVERY RACE RIGHT NOW." Granted, the economy sucks, it's their money, and they're free to spend it as they please, but still...that's kinda messed up.

I'm getting way ahead of myself here, but let's say it's 2016, or whenever Danica's contract at SHR is up. Lightning has not struck, and the Danica experiment has proven unsuccessful as far as on-track performance goes. Will her sponsors (and Smoke) continue to support her? How many of the fans will still be buying her merch? At that point, since she doesn't have the benefit of a famous last name like my man, ol' Junebug, what keeps her NASCAR aspirations alive? The fact that she looks good in a bikini? Would that alone really be enough? I wonder.

Just some food for thought. As I previously stated, I like her and hope she makes it.
This is probably sexist, but as long as she is attractive she probably keeps the gig until her mid 40s. The one thing she cant control is the attention the broadcasters give her.

As long as she is the only female with a bikini body in cup racing, she will be a big story and worthwhile for godaddy, or someone else if they go away.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Danica's an actress pretending to be a race car driver. I think that's what irritates me the most.

Yes, the media buys in to it more than they should - but you also have to remember, Danica does a masterful job working the media.

The biggest story of the year in NASCAR should be Kurt Busch and what he's been doing with a low budget race team.

with road course cars I think the cars themselves have evolved to make it such that a road course specialist doesn't have an advantage anymore. the brakes and in particular the transmission are light years ahead of what they had even in the 90's combine that with drivers who are in the same cars every week, even though the setup is different they are used to being inside the car and how it feels just being strapped in. in the last 10 years the road course ringers haven't really done much. marcos ambrose is a road course ringer who also happens to be in the car every week, thats his advantage IMO.

I'm not so sure that the so called 'road course specialist' ever had the advantage. Over the years those ringers were brought in to teach the NASCAR Cup contingent a lesson or two. It simply never happened. The Cup drivers have consistently come out on top.

Robby Gordon has two wins - though I'm not sure if he can be considered a road ringer or not since his first career win, surprisingly, came on an oval. That race was a classic.

But there are a lot of great road course drivers in Cup. Montoya, Stewart, Gordon, Krylie. Kurt could easily win at Sonoma.

Did you know Jr. won in the cup series in just his 12th start. And I believe he won the all-star race as a rookie. That blows your theory. LOL:D

Robby was a Cup driver. He wasn't a hired gun.

Not in Cup, but they've gotten wins in Nationwide before.

Although the record books may say that they didn't get any wins , my old memory (rosy as it may be ) makes me think that quite a few of them had last lap crashes and passes , that cost them wins . They also sat in some back marker race cars and got some much needed owner points when regular drivers weren't very good on road courses .They more than held their own and were very much a threat to win in most events . Like a lot of fill in drivers , they tended to overdrive the equipment . Just my opinion.

Danica is a record setting driver.o_O She set a record at Indy..first female driver to lead a lap at indy. Watched the indy race last night, her first as a rookie, and if you think the Danica coverage in Nascar is over the top, every other word was Danica this Danica that. They didn't even interview the second and third place drivers after the race until Mom, Dave Letterman, Danica, Rahal, and then they moved to the winner Dan Wheldon.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. You have to have some talent to run the tracks, it is a lot tougher than it looks.
I think shes serious and I dont think her associates would accept less.

Somethings can be seen in subjective terms. For example she is very fit, and works out.
Someone against Danica would say thats to stay in shape for a bikini photo shoot.
Someone very postive about her could justly cite that as a serious racer staying in shape.
Love or hate her, spin it for her or against her it happens routinely.
The public is at least as guilty if any thing has been done wrong or something has been violated. It is joint cooperation from both sidex.
That doesnt make it wrong or right, but it is the racing world. Only a few could ever tell a sponsor what they will not do.
I wish the sponsors werent the king makers, but they do finance the drivers, so the reality is unavoidable.

My biggest complaint was described well by Mr Gregory. Danica has been rushed into Nascar or Sprint Cup without enough experience in the bjg heavy cars.

Two final notes:
I dont blame her for using her looks, several male drivers has done the same. The fairer sex will usually win that game (at least they should :). I respect that as much as any famous drivers son, using his birthright. Her effort took more creativity imo.

Mid teir drjvers have won in cup. Phil Parsons, Lenny Pond, Greg Sacks, Derrick Cope, Lake Speed to name a few shocked the world.
I dont see Danica winning, but stranger things have happened.

Danica has some talent, but her popularity outweighs it by quite a bit. She's got enough to be a solid mid-packer in Cup (15-20th) at best. She was tail end of top 10 in Indy, driving top equipment.

Everybody pays attention to her. It's not her fault and she would be stupid not to milk it. In pure racing terms though, she's not much to be excited about. She could make a good showing at Sonoma and Watkins Glen.

I agree with mid-pack in Cup. Consider how much trouble Hornish had, that's why he was dumped back down to Nationwide. I think Patrick was phoning it in during large portions of 2010-2011 once the Nascar deal was signed. In any case, Andretti Autosport were the third best team at that point. If anything, Ryan Hunter-Reay is the reason they win more than ~1 race a year. When they looked mostly lost in the last half of 2012, RHR was sealing the championship with heroic drives.

Hard to say since Cup drivers are much better on average at road courses than Nationwide ones. I would say a top 10 is a reasonable expectation.

And welcome to SkirtChaser , good thoughts there . 15 th to 20th place in the next couple of years would put her in the top half of Cup drivers and on par with the Montoyas , Hornishes and others. She's not going to be the next Jimmy Johnson , and she may not win a lot of races , but that applies to just about all of the male drivers too.

Welcome aboard DC, it is always nice to here other fans ideas. I think if Danica would have been in a Penske car during her Indy career then she might have won a few more races. She had the talent in Indy cars that's for sure. SHR is struggling right now and that isn't helping her reputation any at all. I think once SHR gets their performance level back up to par then she will start having better finishes. I rooted for her through her whole Indy car career and I would like to see her do good here too.
