Tony Should Sign Mark To Stewart-Hass For Next Season

with Newman having no sponsor lined up for next year I think it would be smart to dtich newman and hire Mark(bring back his #6 number aswell ) who would have no trouble getting a sponsor plus Mark would be a good mentor for Danica and help her out on whats she doing wrong and help her get better.

#4 Harvick,#6 Martin,#,#10 Patrick,and #14 Stewart. .2014 Stewart-Hass Drivers.

I don't think Tony's interested in a fourth car; the #6 is assigned to Jack Roush, not Mark; Aaron's won't leave Waltrip, and I don't know if Mark is the sponsor magnet you think he is.

2014 - Stewart, Harvick, Patrick.

This. Not too many sponsors are out there looking to brand with a 50+ year old that isnt going to be in the sport for long.

Now maybe Stewart/Haas could attract said sponsor if they have a backup plan in place for when
Mark is out of the car.

Stewart /Haas hasn't been able to find adequate sponsorship for Ryan Newman , they certainly aren't looking to sign another driver unless he is bringing big sponsor money . I think the big question at MWR is... Vickers or Newman ?. Personally I'd take Newman.

It's almost a done deal for Vickers. I don't entirely agree with that (he's only 10th in Nationwide points) but he's certainly still young enough to win some races for MWR.

mark needs to get a hobby, he has been just riding around for years.

I'm sure he has a hobby or two. He has a part time job that he has won over 2 million this year I wouldn't mind having. Pretty good pay for a Sunday drive.

big deal that's what he does. Is he going to win a championship? NO. Does he need the money? What is the point of him driving the car, the money? he has been riding for years. Whens the last time he raced someone?

Mark is getting too old to race. If he knows what it good for him he will retire at the end of 2013.

And the only reason that Vickers is 10th in points is because of bad luck. If he had better luck he would be up there with Sam Hornish Jr.

This is a funny thread. Mark Martin has always and will always be my favorite driver but he's 54 years old. I'm going to hate the day that he retires - but the fact is, that day isn't too far out. I still think he's got enough in him for one more win. I'd like to see him get it this year because this might be his last ride in Cup. I could see him running a season or two in Nationwide or Trucks. But he's running out of time.

Mark could be a good driver coach for Danica but the problem is, she just doesn't have the talent to compete in these leagues. She's been surrounded by the very best during her time in NASCAR. She might luck in to a win or two, but that's about all she's got in her.

I like Ryan Newman but he's not done much of anything in a long time. He was the man in 2003 and 2004 but hasn't done anything since. He won a Daytona 500 and a couple of other races. And he doesn't have the charisma to attract sponsors like Danica does.

It was only a few years back he finished second in points. Can you say that about your driver? This year for a part time driver who has had bad luck he is not that far out of the top twenty. A couple of good races or a win and he could be inside.

I'm tryin hard to figure out your name clit . Is it a joke of some kind that I'm too old to understand ?Am I the only one who doesn't get it?

Yes...It's the "female part" ;) and Bowser came from the Speed Forums where all the drivers were given nicknames

Maybe not leave MWR but maybe be part of more than one team....

Hendrick wants Nationwide ride for Chase Elliott: Team owner Rick Hendrick hopes to put Chase Elliott, the 17-year-old son of 1988 Cup champion Bill Elliott, in a Nationwide Series car in 2014. Chase Elliott is coming off a win in the ARCA series last weekend at Pocono with Aaron's as his primary sponsor. He has finished sixth, fifth and fourth in three starts for Hendrick in the Truck Series with Aaron's on the hood. Asked about his plans for 2014, Hendrick, a co-owner of JR Motorsports, said "Hopefully, in the Nationwide Series.'' Hendrick didn't rule out Aaron's being the sponsor. "They like him a lot,'' Hendrick said before Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. "They've been with him since he started. We've had a lot of interest in him -- a lot of interest. I tell you, his record in Trucks, and that [Pocono] race, it was pretty awesome.'' Hendrick signed Elliott to a multiyear deal in 2011.(ESPN.com)(6-16-2013)

Racing is Martin's hobby. I was a fan for years, then he retired, came back, rinse and repeat. I thought he should just retire and move on. But I've noticed that he has been competitive at every team he worked at since retiring. He is an exception to old drivers staying too long. I think he prefers a part time ride because there are tracks he doesn't enjoy driving. He will probably take a ride at any team that want him. He is 54 and still a top 15 driver so I say let him continue if he wants. I want to know how old he can get and stay competitive.

If anybody looks at Marks stats, you got to be crazy to say he is washed up, they are either an idiot, or a trollrat trying to get something started. 14 top tens the last two years he has been driving part time. I think he will be around until he doesn't want to race anymore. He is smart and doesn't try to overdrive the car, if it isn't there, he will get the best finish the car can get. Doesn't wad many up being stupid.

I'd be surprised if Michael lets him go . Slap the title of 'consultant ' on him and let him deal with media , sponsors , conditioning and general rah rah guy .

Or just isn't a Mark Martin fan:rolleyes: :D
I agree though, he's still competitive and a good driver. I'd hate to see him move in to a role where he's S&Ping or just taking a spot up. I don't see him back w/ MWR though unless they go to a fourth part time team or Mark goes full time which I don't see.

I'm not really a super fan, and driving a Toyota hasn't helped, but he is still getting it done. I like the way he isn't playing the game, running the tracks that he wants to race, and he is good enough to do it.

I would love to see Martin running trucks. I like him, dont want to call him washed up, but 54 is 54. The team has to believe the driver is their Ace...

On the other hand I think he is still good enough to win. Martin is a tough study or unique. He defies age, almost always brings instant results to.a new team, but then there is usually a following decline

Whats my point, I dunno just saying.....

I like to see Mark take one last chance at that Championship and then retire after 2014 season.Remember people Mark came close to winning the title in 09 drving for Hendrick so I do think he got one last run in him and Stewart-Hass would be a good fit for him.

Riding around? If you prorate his points from last year over all 36 races, he would have been 15th in points. Denny Hamlin would kill to have Mark's part-time performance.

And in my original response to the discussion topic, I forgot one of the biggest factors: Mark isn't interested in running full-time. Mikey isn't either, so between the two of them they can split the car and dump the races they don't want off on Brian. Heck, the only reason Mark opens the season is because Mikey already has Daytona 500 trophies.

I wonder if Mikey would build him a truck?

How do you prorate points? Mark has done it all, except win it all. if his driving style was a little more aggressive he might have that championship.

He ran 24 races last year, earning 701 points. 701 x (36/24) = 1051.5 points. That doesn't account for the Chase but it doesn't look like he would've made it anyways. Still, to perform that well at his age is remarkable.

Mark Martins a Racer it's all he knows, he'll either die doing what he Loves or slowly fade away till he can no longer make the show.....For some racing is like a disease that has no cure, in a way it's kinda sad.

1051 would have left him tied for 14th with Newman. Ryan's single win would have been the tie breaker.

I'm certainly not knocking the man. He'll be in the Hall the first year he's eligible, guaranteed. My 'Info' tab here says he's a god. He pioneered physical conditioning in the sport. If he ever gets Daytona, the rest of the teams will line up like they did for Dale. And when he says he's just happy to be here, he honestly, sincerely means it.

But there's no place for him (or anyone else) at Stewart-Haas in 2014.

I'd love to see him get Daytona. I wonder if Finch will give him a ride at Daytona. I mean, I know he says he's closing up but he says that every year.
