Hamlin's chances for making the the Chase becoming slim

There's only 10 races left and Hamlin is without a win this season. He's currently in 25th place and has been struggling all season. Do you think he can make a surge to make the top 20 and get a wild card birth?

Yeah, I'm no Hamlinator but I wanted to see him make the Chase, because as someone else said on here a while back, that could potentially have called the whole Chase format into question. It would have made for an interesting debate, especially if he then went on to be a top contender for the title - should a driver that misses a ton of races be included in the championship hunt?

Mind you, I'm sure it's still mathematically possible, but at this point I'd say it's highly unlikely.

I thought Denny would make the chase with ease, but I honestly think he has lost focus and would rather wreck Logano and run off and have back surgery and spend time with Jordan and their daughter.
 
I never bought into to him making the Chase after missing several races. It's hard to make a big comeback like that. It's a lot easier to lose points than it is to gain them. Just look at Stewart. He went from 22nd to 10th in 4 or 5 races. But slid back to 15th after one race.

I thought that too. It sure would have been a heated debate.
 
Not a fan of the 11 but...... nah he ain't gonna do it. Might win a race or two but that's it.

On another note I have recently had back surgery (fractured disc L5,S1) and I respect Denny for gettin back in that car this season. He's tougher than woodpecker lips!;)
 
No, he would have to go on a torrid pace just to get in the top 20 plus win at least twice to have a shot now.. I thought it was doable when he came back but I didn't expect him to lose more ground. He has to finish in the top 5 in basically all the races left.
 
At this point I agree it's highly unlikely, but I do think his inclusion would cause the current Chase system to be reworked, which I feel will be good for the sport as a whole.
 
Not running good now, but he is good at Loudon, Richmond, Pocono, Atlanta and Michigan all with events prior to the chase, I think he can do it.

Not a Hamlin fan and he needs his doctor Phil times, but if he makes it I will be reminding folks about this prediction.
 
Hamlin is circling the drain. Haven't seen much life out of him since he came back. Most of those back operations don't help much, but you get to eat pain pills by the handfulls. Really can't see the doctor saying: oh your just fine now, go race and wreck your back is all fixed now.
 
I don't know what happened at Michigan, TRD said they gave him the best engine that weekend and he was running in the 30s battling for the Lucky Dog all day.
 
Put Vickers in for the races he isn't already committed in the #55. Denny should have his back surgery and get rehab'ed for next year.
 
Like many I thought he had a good shot as of late but he has blown it. Very slim chance now, one more race where he finishes 20th or worse and he is completely out.

exactly, that was my first clue, I expected to see him running hard trying to make up for lost time. he and Martin were supposed to get the go or blow engines and he moped around all day long...he is going nowhere fast. Wonder if the boy is all loaded up on pain pills and listening to Cheech and Chong on the track.
 
I was cheering for him to do it, but looks like slim to none chance.
 
While it is certainly not impossible , there are guys that are running way better than him (like Junior ) who aren't going to win two races in the next ten.

I was hoping his royal doucheness' season would play out much like it has. I said it before one of the chase regulars has to be out for Joey to get in. Who better?
 
Hamlin runs well at Kentucky but he better soon get it in gear. Keep in mind, people, that Hamlin can string off 2 or 3 wins in a row. Not just 2 in a career.

Joey Logano - 2 wins in first 163 races

Denny Hamlin - 11 wins in first 163 races

Since you called Logano one of the greats, let's compare him to some other greats in their first 163 races.

Dale Earnhardt - 9 wins, 1 Winston Cup in first 163 races.

Jimmie Johnson - 22 wins in first 163 races.

Jeff Gordon - 38 wins, 2 Winston Cups in first 163 races.

Yes, very very young career. Nobody could have accomplished anything in the time that Logano has been in Cup.

Yeah yeah Ive been through all that ask around. LOL Whats ur point? MINE was that Denny is gona miss the chase, and that I think Joey will make it... what does 2009-2012 have to do with that? Just curious..
 
Nope just a supportive fan. Male, no man crush lol. I just remembered saying a while ago that someone has to miss the chase when Joey starts making it, who better then Denny? lol... Also, try comparing the achievements of those guys.. or almost everyone in the history of NASCAR by age... Sure he hasn't done that great yet but most of the guys above hadn't even stepped foot in a NASCAR vehicle by Joeys age. I really don't want to get into all this again, its an ancient argument as far as Im concerned... have fun with all that.
 
well then why keep throwing it up there then? over and over and over...definition of insanity BTW doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. The whole thread is about Hamlin until you showed up.
 
In my opinion Denny is his own worst enemy. It appears he puts too much pressure on himself, his lack of self control a few years back took him out of contention for the championship ( no I didn't forget the can of gas). When he can relax he wins , at least that's what it seemed like in his early years at this level. Winning races and not even worried about the cup.
