Hamlin's chances for making the the Chase becoming slim

stick a fork in him.it would have been over the top for him to make it, wishful thinking.

After today he is done. I am indifferent toward Hamlin can take or leave him, but I was wishing him a strong recovery.
I was wondering if he could find his rhythm quickly after returning, sometimes it takes a while.
I am not sure if he needs to rest out the season. It is not always so simple, probably pros and cons both to toughing it out or resting.

Once he feels the pressure is off he will a couple of races this year. That is if he feels the pressure is off and can relax.

He may not need rest as much as he needs rehab time after the surgery . I say get the operation and maximize the recovery period . The post season break is pretty short .

But we do not know all of the details or facts, we can only speculate. The path to recovery may not be as simple as taking a rest or getting surgery.
He simply could just be in a driving slump. Losing the seat time coud have got him out of sync.
With the money involved, JGR, Fed Ex, etc they are probably torturing this point in their meetings, if he doesn't get the surgery or additional rest I have to think tthey know what they are doing.
Denny even with his psychological issues has the talent to be a champion, they will do the right thing.

If you wins a race with in the next couple of races I won't count him out. Hamlin and his team are the type that once they get one win, they start to build up more. A few top 5s in a row will get him closer to the top 20 quickly. I wouldn't count him out until 5 to go.

Which of the 'wonder kids ' do JGR have signed ? Maybe Hamlin does want to see a replacement driver in his car for twenty races .;)

Not really, with the wild cards, he needed to be 20th in points and get two wins. Not impossible or even implausible for Hamlin. Unfortunately, all he's been doing since he returned is crashed or finish in the back half of the field.

If he has any shot he basically has to finish top 5 every race between now and the chase. Plus, have the 5 guys ahead of him finish outside the top 20.

I think even Denny knows it's incredibly unlikely at this point.

"Really the biggest thing I was pushing for was to get my team into the Chase. Had an opportunity owner's points-wise to get into the Chase and this is obviously another hit."

yeah, what nine top fives in a row? and the other, have the five ahead finish outside the top 20? Really slim to get 9 top fives, and impossible to have the ones in front of him lay down and finish outside the top 20. I guess you have hope if you are a Hamlin fan, but he has blown his chase opportunities before at much better odds than that. In years past he was always what ya call "temperamental" and the first of this year he wasn't any different. After he hit the wall, he is all laid back, "what me worry". Gets hammered by Tony..oh ok, blows two tires, all smiles. that isn't the Hamlin of old, smarting off, cussing the crew and throwing temper tantrums.
