Haley Moody Earns NASCAR 'Diverse Driver Award'

She says she's " been raced with less respect" and "looked down upon " by some of her male competitors . Imagine that...wouldn't happen here . We luvs wimmin.

Yea the boys always race the other boys gently and with the utmost respect.
In fact I have never heard one snark a racing brother even in private conversations.

I am glad for her accomplishments and i hope she goes on to a great career.

But the poor poor girl stuff is lame.

When Patrick breaks the asphalt ceiling, maybe this stuff changes. I believe a certain amount of sexism exists.

I've seen a driver get out and high five his crew after crashing out a female driver. There was no doubt what the high five was for when I heard the driver yell "I guess I showed that b!tch". It happens a lot.

I've seen this stuff first-hand. Watched someone put her head-on in the wall. And then they sit there and say she doesn't race them with respect.

I have seen it countless times too, it was just two racers that didnt like each other for a million different reasons.

She has a great opportunity in great equipment with great sponsorship.
In a sport that would gain some of the greatest postive attention imaginable, if she were was to suceed in becoming competitive.
With an abundance of opportunities to prove her capabilities.

She isnt oppressed or supressed. She owns the demonstrated lack of performance.

There are guys out there that hate on her because shes a woman. as for performance we shall see. Just observations.

This stuff happens. All too often.

This happens all the time in male dominate career paths and cultures. Which is why I don't really like to call myself a "gamer", even though I play tons of video games. I don't want to be associated with a culture that basically belittles women for enjoying the same thing that they do by saying "YOU'RE NOT A REAL GAMER!" or "YOU'RE JUST DOING IT FOR ATTENTION, YOU WHORE!"

Disgusting.

Thanks for posting that. You have my respect and I believe you.

I couldn’t be more grateful to be chosen for this. I would like to thank George Silbermann for nominating me for this award. I am thankful that NASCAR views me as an influence on young women and on young people. One of the things that gives me joy is seeing young kids at the track on race day.

I was once one of those kids, growing up at the track with my dad. He gave me the opportunity to race. I’ve been racing ever since 2010, but I believe my most memorable and best race will always be the last race my dad ever saw. In October of 2013, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He was able to be in attendance when I raced at Myrtle Beach Speedway a month later.

That was a special day not just in my career but in my life, setting the fast lap in qualifying, leading every lap, and winning the race as the first girl ever to do so at Myrtle Beach with him there. It was truly a gift from God. It was the final race he would attend and one of the last moments, I’d spend with him. It was truly special to get that win for him.

This past season, I ran at Southern National Motorsports Park. I moved up from chargers to Limited Late models. The amount of fan support left me in awe. It was great to see how many young and old people look up to me. That makes what I do worth it every week.

We had a great season. We ended up with 23 top 10s, 16, top 5s, 3 wins, and 5 poles. The greatest accomplishment of the year was winning the track championship as the first woman in the region to win a Late Model championship. To win a NASCAR championship is pretty special and it’s what everyone strives for. Hopefully, one day, I’ll be able to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship.

It was difficult at times being a woman in a man’s sport and trying to be competitive. I did not always get the respect the other guys had, but that is how it goes. It only makes me stronger and makes me want to win that much more. I am sure Danica knows all about this. She is one I look up to and admire. This year I will be racing again with hopefully more wins and more success.

I would not be where I am right now without the support of family, crew, and sponsors. Ford has been extremely supportive of my career and they have helped me great ton. Champion Spark Plugs is also a great sponsor and we are glad they are back on board this season. Other sponsors I would like to thank are Draco Springs, Hank Thomas Fuels, Performance Friction Brakes, Five Star Bodies, ARI, and Maxima Racing Oils.

One of the people who has been in my life throughout my career is Matt McCall who is now the crew chief for Jamie McMurray in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He drove for my dad back in 2009 when he won the UARA touring series championship. Him and his wife Meredith have been great influences and role models in my life.

Thank you again for this opportunity and this recognition.

Which driver did he spin out? Shawna Robinson?

Good for Haley. I hope to see more female drivers be successful in auto racing.

He said he was going to do it , and he did it , as I recall. That wasn't unusual back in the day . The drivers were super macho .Gave anybody who was different a hard time .

Between Johanna, Kenzie and Haley, we have a solid crop of female drivers coming up.

Where the hell are the sponsors though?
