Has there ever been a bigger scapegoat? Produces a 3rd place finish in only his 5th race as a CC then wins his 6th race as a CC. Has his car in the chase as a rookie CC. Then last year the 10 had the best average finish since Danica took over and he gets fired. I hope he gets another chance.

It couldn't be that Danica is awful, no way . I'm tired of the debates over it though, the stats speak for themselves

Lance McGrew

Alan Gustafson

Much bigger ...
I mean Gustafson still has a job at one of the top rides in all of NASCAR. I agree he did take a lot of blame from fans, but I don't think HMS ever felt that way.

And McGrew showed over multiple years with multiple drivers that he wasn't very good.

I don't think HMS felt that way about McGrew, either. They sent him to K&N east to work with Chase Elliott. I believe he still works for the organization in a managerial capacity.

SHR shifted Knost, who has a PhD, into a similar role in vehicle dynamics. Both of these guys are brilliant engineers. That doesn't make them great crew chiefs.

The criticism of Gustafson last season was unwarranted. This guy has been winning Cup races since day one.

I just think you don't see a lot of CC's win that quickly in their careers. I would like to see him get another chance with a quality driver.

Knost and the 10 team started off well last year as after 8 races they had 2 top 10's, 6 lead lap finishes and were 13th in the point standings. This year through 8 races Scott and the 10 team have a best finish of 16th, just 2 lead lap finishes and sit 25th in the point standings.

In 2015 after the 8th race Knost and the 10 team hit the skids and never finished better than 16th in the last 28 races and managed only 8 lead lap finishes so overall the 10 team can still do significantly better than last year but they need to show improvement immediately.

Not taking sides , but the CC can only do so much, same goes for the driver, it takes two to tango.

A crew chief/driver combo is more about the personalities involved than anything else. It's similar to a coach/player or even an employer/employee relationship. You can have two talented people but if the personalities don't mesh then you're not going to get results.

He did sh!t for Kurt.

What... 1 win / 5 top 5 / 3 top 10 / 0 poles / 18p average finish/ in 33 races with the best equipment and one of the best drivers in the garage isn't impressive.? Seriously, I agree that it takes two to tango, but Knost wasn't a scapegoat.... he just wasn't a good CC. Also, the win KB/Knost scored at Martinsville was the same car and race DP finished p7 the following year.

I just said he didn't do anything for Kurt and you just made my point. 18 average finish isn't good. He was not a good CC for Kurt.

I was being big time sarcastic, Lisa.:D I find it hilarious when DP bashers make it sound like Knost was a great CC for KB and It couldn't be farther from the truth.
