TT 2016: Michael Dunlop: 'I can do a 134mph lap, maybe 135mph'

Michael Dunlop has said he believes he can do a 135mph lap around the TT course after taking a dominant victory in today’s Superbike race.
Dunlop obliterated John McGuinness’ outright lap record from a standing start on the opening lap recording an average speed of 133.37mph, before matching his pace on his first flier. However, from Ramsey to Ramsey the Ballymoney star clocked an average of 134mph, showing signs that he could edge even further into the TT history books.
He went on to cross the line and take a new race record, 19 seconds ahead of runner-up Ian Hutchinson.
“It was really good, I can't complain, the bike was working really well,” he said. “Everyone had got pace but I just went into it with what I had. We just pushed on, I knew my pace and I kept at it, battering on. There's definitely a 134 in me and maybe even a 135 - there is only one way to find it, and I will be pushing myself for it. I said that I am here to win races, and I've shown today that I can, bagging my 12th TT win and breaking the records too. The boys behind me have worked hard. The effort that they have done is all out their own pockets, they have given me their all. You wouldn't believe the workshop that Stuart and Steve work in and they provide me with the best kit and a great set-up. Stuart has been very loyal to me after last year. Friday is a different day but if the weather is good I will have a good go. I want to keep adding to my tally."

Two killed on Day One of TT Races

Two competitors at the Isle of Man TT Races have died.
Sidecar driver Dwight Beare, 27, and motorcyclist Paul Shoesmith, 50, were killed during the first day of the Races.
ACU Events Ltd, which organises the races, said it wished to pass its deepest sympathy to the families and friends of both riders.
Mr Beare, who is originally from Melbourne, Australia but lived in Onchan in the Isle of Man, was killed following an accident near Rhencullen during Saturday's Sidecar Race 1.
He made his debut at the TT Races in 2014, achieving a 12th place in his second race on the Isle of Man when he competed with father Noel as his passenger.
The pair returned to the Isle of Man TT last year, achieving a 17th place in the first sidecar race.
His passenger this year, Benjamin Binns, from the Isle of Man, was airlifted to Nobles Hospital where he was described as being stable with a fractured ankle.
Mr Shoesmith, from Poynton, Lancashire, was killed following an accident on Sulby Straight during Saturday's solo practice. The session was abandoned.
He had made his debut at the TT Races in 2005 and had a highest placed finish of 15th on the TT Mountain Course in both the Superbike and Senior Races in 2011.
He also achieved finishes of 8th and 11th in the 2008 and 2009 Lightweight TT Races at the Billown circuit.
He achieved his fastest ever lap around the TT Mountain Course in Saturday's Superbike Race, lapping at 125.896mph and finishing 29th. He won 40 bronze replicas, including the one he received for Saturday's race.
A statement from ACU Events said: "Paul also operated his own Ice Valley Four Anjels Racing team and gave numerous riders the opportunity to compete at a high level in the TT Races including many of the current race paddock."

The Tyco BMW star had pulled two seconds on his main BMW rival by the first checkpoint and continued to build his buffer as he completed the first lap with an average speed of 133.098mph to obliterate the Superstock lap record.
Disaster struck for Dunlop as he unexpectedly came into the pits at the end of the opening lap, signalling to his team that he was having issues with the gear lever. Despite their best efforts to fix the problem, he was left with no choice but to retire.
Having inherited second with Dunlop’s retirement, James Hillier held the runner-up spot for most of the race but a hard-charging Dean Harrison had caught him by the final lap. Just 0.2 sec separated the Kawasaki duo at Ballaugh on the final lap, with Harrison taking it by 1.9 at the line.
Michael Rutter took a strong fourth place ahead of Gary Johnson with John McGuinness sixth. Conor Cummins took seventh ahead of William Dunlop with David Johnson and Steve Mercer completing the top ten.

T 2016 – Ivan Lintin Makes It Back To Back Lightweight TT Wins
Following the earlier delays due to mist on the Mountain Course, the 2016 lightweight TT, got under way this evening at 6:30 PM.
Lap 1:
Ivan Lintin for many the pre race favourite, slotted into race lead at Glen Helen on lap 1, leading James Hillier by just 0.338, Michael Rutter was only 0.114 further behind, Dan Cooper, Gary Johnson and Martin Jessopp holding the number one plate, completed the top six.
James Hillier moved into race lead at Ballaugh Bridge, 0.415 in front of reigning lightweight TT winner Lintin, Rutter third was a further 1.8 seconds behind as Stefano Bonetti held fourth position on the CCM Motorsport backed Paton.
Super twin heavyweights on the roads Lintin and Hillier, by the Bungalow where breaking away from Rutter in third place now almost five seconds behind the pace setters, at Brandywell the KMR Kawasaki rider was a confirmed retirement.
At the end of a close fought opening lap James Hillier held a 2.1 second lead over Ivan Lintin, Gary Johnson on the factory CF Moto was third just 0.3 in front of Stefano Bonetti.
Martin Jessopp and Dan Cooper battling the pain barrier where fifth and sixth, Jamie Coward in seventh place, was showing impressive form on his own teams RJP Racing backed ER6 Kawasaki.
Lap 2:
The battle between Hillier and Lintin, intensified on lap two. Positions one and two on the leader board remained the same at both Glen Helen and Ballaugh Bridge.
By Ramsey Ivan Lintin was charging on the Devitt RC Express Racing ER6 Kawasaki, now only 1.107 seconds off the race lead.

Over the mountain, the six time international road race winner moved into the lead, entering the pits at the end of lap two with a 1.443 second over James Hillier.
Gary Johnson in third was 48 seconds behind the leading duo, followed by Martin Jessopp just 2.6 seconds behind the two time TT winner, Stefano Bonetti and Dan Cooper concluded the top six.
Lap 3:
After the scheduled pit stops Ivan Lintin’s lead grew to over eight seconds at Glen Helen, following a top draw pit stop from the Devitt RC Express Racing team.
Martin Jessopp moved in front of Gary Johnson for third, Stefano Bonetti was also in front of the CF Moto mounted rider, Dan Cooper sixth, was impressing everyone with his sheer grit and determination.
Ramsey Hairpin, Bungalow and Cronk Ny Mona timing points where all extremely positive for Ivan Lintin, now 10.110 seconds clear of James Hillier.
The battle for third was hotting up, Martin Jessopp remaining third was coming under increasing pressure from Gary Johnson, determined to make up for a slow pit stop.
Holding a lead in excess of 11 seconds, Ivan Lintin at the end of the third lap, was on the cusp of becoming a two time TT winner.
James Hillier second, would need to produce a very special lap on the Quattro Plant Muc Off ER6 Kawasaki to reel in Ivan.
Meanwhile Martin Jessopp, Gary Johnson and Stefano Bonetti where closely matched in the battle for the final spot on the podium, around six seconds covered the three of them.
Lap 4:
Although his lead was reduced to almost just eight seconds at Ballaugh Bridge, Ivan Lintin got the hammer down again, by Ramsey Hairpin, pushing his lead up to almost eleven seconds.
Keeping calm in situations like this, is key to winning a TT Race, Ivan Lintin did this and more over the next timing points at the Bungalow and Cronk Ny Mona.
He crossed the line at the end of lap four, to clinch his second successive lightweight TT race victory.
Plus it’s also his seventh international road race victory and RC Express Racing’s third successive triumph in the super twins class at the TT Races.
James Hillier second, was happy enough in clinching his third top three finish of TT 2016.
Whilst Martin Jessopp who edged out Gary Johnson by just two seconds for his maiden podium finish, said he was speechless at clinching his first top three placing at the most famous road race in the world.
Gary Johnson fourth, although missing out on a podium, still provided CF Moto with by far and away their best result and performance to date around the Mountain Course, encouraging for the future for the enthusiastic manufacturer from China.
Paton mounted Stefano Bonetti fifth, recorded a huge personal best TT Races result, his top five placing, represented one of the best performances by a competitor from Italy at the Isle of Man TT, in a long time.
Dan Cooper finished under the circumstances an excellent sixth, on his own teams ER6 Kawasaki, whilst Jamie Coward seventh, continues his impressive TT 2016 race week.
VRS Racing’s Colin Stephenson finished a fine eight just in front of DP Coldplaning/TC Racing’s Bjorn Gunnarsson. Finalising the top ten finishers was James Cowton, suffering from the after effects of a high speed incident from Monday’s superstock race.
Added highly notable performances included Michal Dokoupil 11th, Maria Costello MBE 12th, Barry Furber 13th, JHS Racing’s Dave Moffitt 14th, Adrian Harrison 15th and Craig Neve an excellent 16th.
Ivan Lintin underlined this evening, why many consider him the leading exponent of the super twins class on the roads.
Now a two times TT winner, he’s joined a very, very exclusive club of riders to have been victorious twice at the Isle of Man TT.

And that's' a wrap for the TT. As I've said before lives will be lost when you are capable pushing the limits. I lost one of my best friends in an avalanche while skiing one of our favorite backcountry spots, and wouldn't trade those epic powder day's we had for anything. To the riders who perished, RIP. Huge props to all the riders and winners this year. All these riders and Road Racers in general, have bowling size balls. The next Road Race will back at the IOM for my favorite along with the Ulster Grand Prix in July for the Southern 100. I might start a thread and cover the races depending on how busy I am.

The next Road Race will back at the IOM for my favorite along with the Ulster Grand Prix in July for the Southern 100. I might start a thread and cover the races depending on how busy I am.
