WSBK at Laguna Seca

So cool to see Nicky Hayden make the podium. A great race for third.

Apparently I was the only one watching but they will race again tomoro. I'll be in front of the telly :)

Hayden had a nice p3, but it looks like Rea and Sykes are in a class of there own. Race 2 coming up. Oh,and the KTM boys put on one hell of a show!

Josh Brooks is already out. He's getting his arse kicked on the WSB circuit. I wonder if he will go back to BSB next year.

See if those Ducati's can hang in there today. They crashed out yesterday.

Great race. LS is just an awesome track. Bummer Hayden could land another podium but a p5 will work. I gotta get back to LS next year.

Yeah, that was some great racing. I'm sure am getting my motorbike racing fix. BSB this morning,WSBK this afternoon, and back to the IOM for the Southern 100 tomorrow for 3 days of road racing.:D
IOM again tomoro? Thanks for the heads up.

Yep. Guy Martin has won 3 consecutive solo championships at this race but is gonna be a no show. The combo of that insane 2700 mile bike race he finished last week, and basically not being on a motorbike since his nasty crash at the Ulster Grand Prix last year caused him to cancel. However, the Dunlop brothers, Dean Harrison, and quite a few more of the best road racers in the world will be there.

Good weekend at Laguna Seca. For both WSBK and MotoAmerica, tight competitive races at the front despite the shallow fields. Nice to see Nicky Hayden hustle that outdated Honda onto the podium for his home race.

Ducati's situation is very difficult, in terms of competing for a championship. I blame electronics. Modern racing electronics allow the four cylinder bikes to mimic the traction and torque of the twins off slower corners, thus neutralizing the traditional v-twin advantage there. That is definitely progress on the racetrack, even if not a superior solution for production bikes for public consumption. (High performance fours with modern electronics are certainly a better solution than high performance fours without modern electronics, no doubt.)

MotoGP and WSBK are certainly the twin peaks of motorcycle roadracing, and offer the clearest expression of "driver skill matters" of any motor racing on planet Earth. Not all peaks are created equal, however. There is a stark contrast between the quality of the field in MotoGP and WSBK. But that is not a totally bad thing, IMO. For the many Nascar fans who lament the demise of the old Busch Grand National series (with its separate identity, venues, and stars), rejoice that it lives on in WSBK.
