There are a couple ways to use them.

1) how Fox is cool but kind of boring

2) how it was done at Evergreen Raceway at a race I was at last fall.

Yeah I thought the drone was a non issue. Almost as bad as their hundred mile an hour camera a few years back. Even worse than both of them was their stick n ball cam on a wire, they wiped that thing out pretty quickly.

more drones too, because no people in stands.

As SOI said, it was better than the backstretch zoom camera or the infamous 'fly by wire' Charlotte fiasco. It wasn't anywhere near as good as a blimp or chopper. We'll see if the use improves or if it becomes just another gimmick cam used to show 'cool' shots at the expense of actually showing us the racing.

I found myself thinking the same thing...we interrupt the racing for our new drone shot..we bought the thing, works great for stick n ball and we can almost keep up when they are under caution

My point isn't to criticize the drone it's to say they can do some much more with it then they have, such as the video I linked.

Oh I thought the post was talking about a couple of ways to use them and they are pretty wortless at a Nascar race IMO. It isn't a complaint, it's a fact IMO. BTW, it would be impossible to do that at a nascar track, they arent going 60 MPH. Nascar's will blow lights off the sides of the track if they aren't attached properly. Anybody who has stood within 3 feet of the fence in a Nascar race will get blown over if they aren't ready for it.

I really don't need a drone cam to follow the drones. So I would rather aim that cam away from the drones, and toward a monster energy girl or the actual race.

Opinions can’t be facts, so it’s not a fact. Because drones are actually pretty cool, and I enjoy them which is MY OPINION. But yours or mine aren’t facts.

If you think that you can fly a drone above a Nascar track have at it. The wind I alluded too coming out of the sides of the car are also coming off of the top of them. Physics laws are facts.

They clearly do it since they have drones at the race and flying around... so I mean.... it’s done...

Well, we did not have the Goodyear blimp for help, so I thought the drone was a great idea. I think with time they will get better and better at the drone usage. :booya:
It was there, this opening shot was from the blimp

Drones are another tool and I expect they will experiement with it (like the days when cameras were introduced to NASCAR). But I don't think they should be above racing surface, it would be a matter of time before a drone fails and possibly affect someone's race.
