Cup RACE thread --- Chicago Street

AJ is such a wheel man, I’ve been watching him since he got his start in what was the smoldering embers of CART. I found this stat insane…Dude can not only drive anything but he also brings it home if he can’t win.

Now that was a good post race. Either Alex is coming out of his shell a little or he has already opened one of those bottles. 😃
 
It may have been odd to be racing against the "clock" but it was a fun race. I am getting a little tired of these "fluky" wins though. This week was not as bad a Logano but it seems like NASCAR is becoming more and ore about who guesses right and that has little to do with knowledge. Bowman drove a great race though so hats off to him. I thought TR had him until he gagged.

Anyone have footage of what happened between Chase and Suarez? I am reading Suarez dumped him but I reserve judgment until I see it for myself but the coverage was terrible. Chase had some type of issue on the restart after the rain after coming through the field really well he suddenly dropped from 6th to 15th and not a word was said. That's really what cost him any shot as it forced their hand to get slicks which at that point they were too far behind to catch up anyway. He rocket's through the field on the final run though coming from 25th to around 11th I think only to finish p21. Huge missed opportunity as Larson and Chase would be close to tied right now in points again.

Local Chicago papers gave favorable reviews to the music acts that played Saturday night and early Sunday afternoon but noted that "barely anyone showed up" and that "the crowds heading to Festival Field were a tiny fraction of what similar large events like Lollapalooza are able to draw in the same park."

If the Chicago Street Race lives to see another day it'll be interesting to see if NASCAR continues with the musical sideshow.

I don't know what Nascar is going to do about attracting older fans. The sport is dying with all of these younger fans.
And for Greg, front row left, Hooters may be gone but it has not been forgotten.

Lollapalooza lineup includes: Megan Thee Stallion, Kesha, SZA, The Killers, Deftones, Blink 182, and dozens of other acts.

The Chicago Street Race concert featured Keith Urban and Lauren Alaina.

The point is that a music festival draws those interested in the music and a NASCAR race draws those interested in the race.

The mix of the two didn't seem to work out like they hoped.

He played to a relatively small crowd prior to the Xfinity race on Saturday less than a month after being the headliner at the packed Blues Fest held at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, north of Grant Park.

Don't forget that the main owner MJ is perhaps the most ferocious competitor the NBA ever saw. He'll probably tell Bubba to knock it off while winking.

I mean Suarez could've very easily moved him under braking the way Chase did instead of driving thru him in his left rear, but not surprising people here think they're the same thing considering the driver involved.

It's amazing how 2 people can look at something and see totally different things. What I see there is racing for the position on the last lap where one car is way faster than the other and pushed the issue some. I think it's textbook bump and run in that Chase was aggressive for sure but he also did not ruin Suarez's day. It's further proof that Chase will get criticized no matter what by some as it seems like the big issue people love to pull out is that Chase is not aggressive enough but then he does this and people complain. I, as a fan of his, agree that he is not aggressive enough at times and LOVE seeing what he did here, To me it was the perfect move at the end of the race because he pushed the issue but did not totally use him up. He could have knocked amigo straight in the wall but just gave him a few taps. Now what Suarez did to Chase at Indy.... ....to me that was over the line a little but either way, this could have been repaying the favor for that which I am also all for. What Suarez did though? Never OK with intentionally wrecking someone.

Maybe,,,,but I feel like I am being objective here. Chase hit him square and it looked like a classic textbook bump and run to me and Suarez dumped him. That's what I see but what are you seeing different? I like one quote I saw where someone on X said Chase did the bump and run and Suarez did the dump and run. LOL
 
Question about the race...Is there a reason they did not move the start time up? Why are they running this race so late when they need to get it in by a certain time? With weather in the area you'd think they could have started it 1 local time and they would have gotten it in.

Suarez has always been a "I'll hit you harder" kind of driver.

It always seems like his retaliations are minutes after the initial contact too lol
