Hurricane Season 2024

The CSU is in with their forecast and it, too, is grim.

Ocean temperatures are already off the charts for this time of year and will only get much hotter. Plus, La Nina means less fronts and wind shear.

For the record, La Nina is my least favorite type of summer on the coast. MUCH hotter, usually with drought, and the hurricane threat is much more significant.

Agreed. We went to SC this week and our little one was actually swimming! Temps in the mid 60s on the water

Buckle up boys and girls, it's gonna be an interesting Hurricane season.

It is our Elliptical Orbit and the Earths Polar Angle around the Sun that has weather effects, not Cow Farts and Automobiles.

Multiple things can be true, and cause things that what's fun about science, it constantly learns...unlike too many people.

The people I listen to, the National Weather Service, says that the ocean temp is the highest it has been in recorded history. They say because of this they think there won't be particularly any more hurricanes than usual, but the ones that are will be stronger overall. So far a Cat 5 already.... so far the NWS is on target.

Texas coast going to get some love.

Your welcome, don't know how long it will be up.

I also follow this guy on Youtube, he puts many cameras in the area where hurricane is coming in at.

Here, have some to use for East Coast storms. Scroll down to pick from a couple of dozen cams

For my location, I favor the Oak Island and two Southport ones. One of the Southport ones is on my favorite seafood restaurant.

Next up is Debby, forecast to hit Florida as a Tropical Storm (I have a gut feeling this will be a cat 2+) and then ride up the coast.

It has a lot of developing to do. At this time there is no consistent rotation and it is still trying to get over the Cuban mountains. Looking at radar it is a mess of little shower strings.

They need to stop using the drones to create and steer these Hurricanes toward their intended targets.

Hopefully everyone is okay and I sure do not want our good friend @Whizzer or anyone else here at RF to ever have to rebuild again due to the weather.

Stay safe everyone.

Doesn't matter if it's a tropical storm or hurricane at this point. Major rainmaker. 30 inches of Charleston could be absolutely devastating.
I've seen a couple of articles about the NHC and other agencies revising the SS scale to include more than just wind speed. Potential rainfall is one of the additional factors.

It's looking like 12-16" here. We're going to bug out.

The wind isn't going to be an issue, and the house isn't in danger from the water. My big concern is the first few days AFTER the storm. The southeastern coast of NC saw big time flooding in '15 from TS Joaquim. My parents came from this same neighborhood to stay with us in Lexington SC. Their house was okay but for almost four weeks, the shifting flood crests on various rivers kept them from getting back into the area. Those same conditions prevented supplies from getting into the area. Yeah, we could stock a bunch of supplies but if we have other options, why put up with four days of solid rain?

We're going to beat feet back to Lex, where the dogs are comfortable in the kennel and we'll be in a nearby hotel. Afterward, we have a lot more flexibility than Mom and Dad have, and are willing to go well out of our way to get back once the roads reopen.

We got 6 inches rain as of late yesterday. Winds high but not hurricane force. No damage here or in community. Went out to Publix for donuts around 7:30 a.m. and saw no damage along way, traffic moving normally but light.
Sarasota County closed Manasota Beach Road due to flooding. Other than that, we are hunkered down watching the rain fall and wind blow. So far, so good. If we think pending storms might be dangerous, we have our own evacuation routes and hotels lined up along the way to either Mooresville or Wilmington, NC where each of our kids live.

Halfway through the 2024 hurricane season and so far, so good. Two wannabes out there but the Gulf one has no chance of development, and the Atlantic one is forecast to stay in the Caribbean.
