Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway Pre-Race Thread

Hopefully I remember this is on tomorrow night. We don't get Saturday night races very often anymore, almost to the point where I forget about them.

There's absolutely no reason for it. Larson qualifies 4th and starts on the front row? Where is the logic in that?

The starting line-up, as shown in the Qualifying Round 2 table, is determined differently this year. Confusing for sure, so take notes if necessary.

The fastest car in Qualifying Round 2 that came from Qualifying Round 1A and the fastest car in Qualifying Round 2 that came from Qualifying Round 1B are assigned the pole position and the outside pole (P1 and P2). The fastest of those two cars gets the pole.

P1 - Bowman; P2 - Larson (the fourth fastest in Qualifying Round 2, but the fastest in Qualifying Round 2 that came from Qualifying Round 1A)

The next fastest cars in Qualifying Round 2, that came from Qualifying Round 1A, are lined up on the outside (P4 thru P10).

P4 - Truex; P6 - Bell; P8 - Hamlin; P10 - Elliott

The next fastest cars in Qualifying Round 2, that came from Qualifying Round 1B, are lined up on the inside (P3 thru P9).

P3 - Byron; P5 - Briscoe; P7 - Hocevar; P9 - LaJoie

So in round 2, a driver isn't competing against all nine other drivers, just the other four from his first round field?

Well, I guess it's better than giving all the teams a 30-minute window and watching them watch each other for the first 27.

That's what I get out of it.

It appears to be an attempt to somehow even out the differences in track conditions between Round 1A and Round 1B.

It has a participation trophy ring to it. I've noticed sometimes that clumps of the faster cars will be in say round one and mostly slower cars will be in round 2 hence the differences in speed. They haven't made it any fairer IMO just more complicated.

Had a good time at the races last night. It wasn't a classic but it wasn't a stinker eithe
I wish there had been more tire wear and comers and goers. I think Dale Jr only got new tires once and that shouldnt be possibile in a 300 lap race.

Custer was impressive, would have enjoyed seeing Algeir having better luck, I think they would have put on a great battle.

Forgot to mention how the rest of the drivers line-up to form Row 6 thru Row 20.

Drivers in Qualifying Round 1A that didn't qualify for Qualifying Round 2 line up in the order of their Round 1A speed on the outside of Row 6 through Row 20. (P12, P14, P16, etc.)

Drivers in Qualifying Round 1B that didn't qualify for Qualifying Round 2 line up in the order of their Round 1B speed on the inside of Row 6 through Row 20. (P11, P13, P15, etc.)

Essentially, drivers are only competing against other drivers in their first round qualifying group and not against drivers in the other first round qualifying group.
