2024 Next Gen Car

In a fever dream, I see Nascar get desperate. Tells HMS/JGR/Penske to build their own front and rear clips for the Next Gen center section. 9" Ford diff, 3-link rear suspension, use the coil-over shocks. Front end goes back to "conventional spindles with double a-arm suspension" and back to worm & ball steering box. Remove all the aero trickery from under the car. Test together at Martinsville.

16" steel wheels with inner liners, tire width back to what they had before and 5 lug wheels.

Bet be 2 seconds lap faster than what they have now. And waaaay tougher. Hate this sports car crap with broken toe-links.

I'll add, whichever clips/geometry is faster, that's the new spec parts. Let the teams build them. They can hire enough welders to do it in couple weeks. I see clips for sale on Facebook Marketplace. You can bet it's some of the "fired" fab guys from the big teams.

Team needs maybe half-dozen front and rear clips for short tracks? Even if they don't roll it out till next season, which would be the best choice, these guys can do it really quickly if you let them. The guys that BUILT cars for 40 years know more about it than NASCRAP.

Guarantee all the suspension parts to assemble that clip is available already built. Maybe even from places like Jegs, Speedway Motors, HOWE, etc. Maybe just grab one of these, adapt as nec, test. They might need different crossmembers for different engines? This CAN be fixed and not spend stupid money. The GEN 7 Car WAS stupid money.

Love how i can post something and get ZERO response. I mean ZERO! Makes me wonder if little bird tweeted in others ears via DM, not to respond to me because "he's cognitive decline". or something similar. Like they told me about a board member.

Or maybe I'm just boring & delusional?

My main problem with some here is the constant cheering for NASCAR. For a few Nascar can do no wrong. Everything is fine. NO! I'm NOT spreading black crepe paper over the series. Just making suggestions on how they might improve the racing. NASCRAP doing a great job themselves of ruining a good thing.
 
Remember when Knaus and Bowyer said they need to get rid of the bump stops a couple of years ago? Might be a place to start.
 
Anyone see this yet? I heard them talking about it on the tear down and actions detrimental. I know the pics here say it's a rule change but everything I heard nothing is official yet.

My total wild ass guess, WAG is that it is going to help, but with the proper launch that packs air on the turtle bottom, no amount of floppy flops, roof this and that is going to help it, it's roll time.
I think when a car gets booted out from the pack at 90 degrees sideways this stuff is going to do a good job if it stays on the pavement. On the other hand if a car gets stuffed into another and gets launched into the air where it can catch the bottom, it's going for a ride.
 
The thing thats annoying to me is it's like they keep throwing band aids on the car because they didn't take the time to design it right.

Oh that didn't work......throw another fin on it!

They have done this with every version of the car they have built. It isn't an exact science. They do tests, simulations, tests and then race it..and that is when new problems show up.

Okay, I'm in the mood to go there this afternoon.

Stop trying to meet the opposing goals of forcing the cars into a pack AND be safe under those conditions.

Most of the development was done during the height of COVID, yet there were still pressures to get the car debuted as quickly as possible. This thing was labeled as the “panacea” for the sport and I think everyone in the industry felt they needed to usher it in sooner than later. There really were not good vibes towards the end of the Gen 6 era.

In hindsight I’m sure they would’ve tested more, but they were hamstrung by pretty much the worst time to try to design, source, and build an all-new type of race car.

It could actually be worse, since it wasn’t until the full-field Charlotte tests in November/December 2021 where they realized carrying over the NA18D package was going to be horrendous on the new car.

Single file is a different symptom of the same disease. It's still a pack, just a narrow one. Knock the banking down so they have to use the brakes a couple of times a lap. Get some separation and when a car does get sideways, there aren't as many immediately behind it to punt it. But don't tell me driver safety is the priority when we know it's about pleasing the crash-lovers.

I can't understand that every time they make changes in an attempt to improve the car, almost all changes do that, they get a ration of sheet by the peanut gallery.
Why, that dang car should have been perfect to start with. Denny Hamlin said so.

I'd have to disagree it was literally the best opportunity they had to design a new car, they just failed to utilize it. Everyone and I mean everyone in the industry was sitting around doing nothing and they did nothing to use that.

Your idea of failure is another idea of success. You aren't going to get 1000 Hp. That will get people killed. You aren't going to get single file racing, that kills attendance and ratings. What you are going to get is parity. It's all about the driver and the team. The cars are close, very easy to inspect, very little cheating that was a black mark on the sport.

They have a car that's terrible on short tracks and not all that great with a super speedway package either.

If you would have let people that design and work on race cars for a living they could have made something better.

Compared to the whines about cookie cutters, short track whiners don't hold a candle to years of that.

CAD and CFD work is one thing, but they have to go validate that stuff en masse and they only ever really had one or two prototypes running at a time. A lot of the issues from aero, ****pit temperature, Mustang fires were mostly things that could’ve been discovered if they had been running in large packs of traffic where they’re all in dirty air, airflow isn’t being fed through the car as well, tire marbles are building up and being thrown around, and so on. And they just didn’t have the inventory to go do that soon enough.
 
What gets me is the press will find some driver who will say it's impossible to pass on a short track, or one of them will get on social media and say the same thing. It's always a good idea to look up where that driver placed in the race. You hardly ever will hear the winner or a top 5 driver say that. It's always the guy in like 12th.

And like I said they literally had the whole industry sitting around doing nothing that they could have done all of this during covid.

I'm a Yankee fan. I am upset about being down 2-0. I am calling for the ****** Dodgers to move their walls back so that their homerooms quick leaving the park. I want the mound moved back so that it is easier to hit 98 mph fastballs. We need longer base paths so that it takes longer to run around the bases....too easy to score. I want the pitch clock eliminated. Pitchers should be able to hold runners on at will--none of this three throws over crap. I want Aaron Judge to be pitched a bigger ball so that he can actually ****** hit the thing. I will be watching Monday. I will enjoy it all.
