Tyler Reddick needs to be in that conversation as well.

At this point, Larson doesn’t make the move that reddick made on the last lap without walling it or taking out Blaney.. if you disagree, see him spin trying to get around Blaney with around 10 to go.

That's a hot take. Larson has been the most consistent driver this season. Reddick's wins in 2024 have been flukey.

To be in the conversation you kind of have to win championships. Kyle, Blaney, and the like have.

Larson came back from 30th place to the front twice in the same race. Drivers make boneheads moves from time to time. It happens, you live and you learn not to do it again.

No driver in any category of racing is infallible. You need to grow up.

So racing his way back in to the top 5 from 32nd doesn't count I guess. The spin? He's aggressive and that's what sets him apart because lets say 95% of the time he pulls it off, he has the it factor. Reddicks last lap was a one vs one battle whereas Larson was trying to get 2 for 1,

The problem is that he is ALWAYS trying to hit a home run when sometimes a base hit is all the situation really calls for.
Isn’t that what people who complain about fuel saving strategies want from drivers? 😇

Kyle Larson drove a broke car from the back to the front. The best way it would work was to rim ride the wall. Larson had a run on Blaney but Dillon chose to stay on the wall so Larson had to pull down to pass and his damaged car wouldn't hold it running off the wall, but it wasn't for lack of trying. I have a feeling he would do the same in a go Kart racing for nothing or going for the win in a championship race.

He basically made that move to win Kansas.

Larson unscrews his head, but he's still a champion and has won 29 cup races lol

Where is Reddick’s 24 hours of Daytona win, Knoxville Nationals win, Chili Bowl win, Indy 500 start and top 5 qualifying effort? Reddick needs to be winning in something outside of NASCAR to be in this conversation.

I’ve seen two of NASCAR’s best try dirt cars in person. William Byron driving a dirt late model, and Ross Chastain driving a dirt modified. They were both THE slowest car there. What Larson does on a weekly basis winning in multiple disciplines is special.

Bell was in this conversation before The Preacher shut him down.

Ok so as much as I think Larson is a little overrated(I will not explain this opinion lol) Reddick making one badass pass(same pass Joey made on Truex in 2018) doesn't bring him anywhere close to this conversation lol.. he's not even among the top 5 in the cup series alone imo.. let alone "racing" in general.

I wanted him to realize that move wasn't going to work, back off for one second and then attack them again. The guy is on the final four bubble. Points matter, and finishing third would have been MUCH better than 13th, or worse, crashed out. I'm much more of the cold calculated assassin fan (Jimmie Johnson) than the flashy shoot the place up kind of guy (Larson). HMS is flirting with having ZERO drivers in the final four. Unforced errors.

You and I both, and that approached worked best in the 'total season points' era. The Banzai! style seems better suited to earning playoff berths and advancing. What failed Larson in one race is also what's gotten him this far, both this season and for his career.

This statement here, just can’t wrap my head around especially if you told me this about a month ago. I thought they’d be a slam dunk for 2 of the 4 slots

They actually had a shot of taking all of the final four spots. It was unlikely but the math was in place prior to the Roval DQ.
I think anything less than two of the final four spots for HMS is a disappointment, and three of the four spots was a very achievable.

Now it looks like they will only be getting one car into the finale, provided that Blaney doesn't shut them out with a Martinsville win.

Agreed. 4 of 4 at one time could be believable. 3 of 4 was probably more realistic, and now might be 0 of 4. Game 7 Moments!

Which one of jimmies 7 championships came in the total season points era?

Has anyone bothered to calculate where Bowman would be if he was still in? I imagine he would still be below the cut line, but those two top tens should have him close enough to possibly advance.

Help me if I'm missing one, but what race has he WON this year by being crazy aggressive? All I can think of is the ones he lost.

I'm not motivated enough to look, especially regarding which format was in effect for each title. I suspect at least one came during the '10 race total points' format, another one suited to calculated finishes.

More appropriately, which ones came during the 'Win and you're in / Round of 16 / Round of 12 / Round of 8 / Leader takes All' format? I can't keep track of when each format was introduced. Heck, I can't remember what some of them were.

Oh no no no no, we are supposed to forget about that driver. They fudged up the points races ago so it is nearly impossible to find that out where Bowman or anybody else is who are not still in the "game". It's forward to final four game 7 moment. Flip one week out of the race, final four after the next. There is your example of crazy aggressive.

Some people prefer to focus on one discipline. Dale Earnhardt never raced a sprint car but you’d be a fool not to consider him one of the best racers of all time.

I agree. He is one of the best Nascar drivers of all time. I would have to go with Foyt, Mario, Larson for best race car drivers. They have won in everything.

Earnhardt drove in the 24 hours of Daytona and did multiple IROC seasons. He also rarely comes up in the “best driver of all time” conversations. The most common names there are Larson, Foyt, Andretti and Stewart.

Larson is one of the best drivers IMO. He runs on the edge all the time and that causes him to make mistakes. I'm impressed with his team because they are able to keep his car running well enough to recover from his mistakes.

Kyle Larson is Aaron Rodgers & Jimmie Johnson is Tom Brady. One makes unbelievably skilled plays, the other cannot but also has lost on major gambles costing him titles. The other was smooth and dominant winning 7 titles.

Oh, please, neither would last a second on a racetrack or a football field if the roles were reversed.

It was split seconds between success or failure with the move Larson tried with a damaged car. It's why I watch. He does it in everything he drives. He lays it all out there. Nascar people only are missing over half of the show. Look at that list above. Those are beating the best racers in the world.

I think only 2016 was under the current format but none of his championships came under total season points, they were all in the playoffs era.

I know none of them came in the full season. I believe he started his run of 5 about a year after that ended after Kenseth’s title.
