Silly Season 2025

I"ll remind you that James Hylton was allowed to attempt to qualify for the 2007 Daytona 500 at age 73 and after having not run a Cup race since 1993, and in between only making field filler starts in ARCA, Xfinity, and trucks. By the way, James did a great job, was a threat to nobody, and was an ill timed caution late in his qualifying race away from making the 500. You won't convince me that a 65 year old Mike Wallace with far more recent relevant experience couldn't do at least as well.
I don't know. Cars were much different back then (gen 4). Mike Wallace hasn't run on an oval in nearly a decade. Hylton was probably in great shape, Wallace really isn't.

The issue I have with the Wallace situation is that apparently, Mike didn't talk to Sawyer personally. He tried to be sneaky and talked to some other personnel instead.

Like I said, I understand why he wasn't allowed in the race. Chances are, he's more like Derrike Cope 2021 rather than 2007 James Hylton.

I can't say he was being sneaky, he could have been , but he talked to the wrong person.

According to Mike, he spoke personally with NASCAR president Steve Phelps and that's who told him he was good to go. If that's true, I don't find that very sneaky. I personally don't care about Mike racing one way or another but I can see why he would be frustrated by the conflicting information he was given.

I think I know who the most popular Pick 'Em driver at Daytona will be.
Well, sure, now that Mike Wallace isn't entered...

I'm not sure about Cole head-wrenching on a Next Gen. On the other hand, it's an out-of-the-box plate car from JGR, so it probably won't need much done beyond tire pressures.

Most tracks require a driver to be in decent physical shape to run the full distance in a cup race. Daytona is not one of them. It's the mental aspect that gets the workout.

Why do we keep playing these games. MTJ will be in a JGR car, Justin will be in a HMS car and Josh Berry will be in a Penske car.

You think those cars even make it Tricon, JR motorsports or Wood Brothers?
I’m sure HMS will have some data sharing engagement with the team, but Dale and Kelly indicated yesterday that JRM are buying all of the Gen 7 parts themselves and assembling the car in-house. That’s different from the Wood Brothers being a branding exercise of a fourth Penske shop car.

saw that too and it raised an eye brow for me in that it this might be a trial run on expenses to see how it goes and if they like their ROI they might be up for more races in the coming year.

That's a lot gear for one race. I expect more entries through the season.

40?? your not even a 1/2 pint
Thanks ha ha I feel old, no disrespect to those older than me on here. It’s been a rough few weeks, I feel like I suddenly lost my youth. It’s all gone by just so fast, I dreaded turning this age since when I was a kid. I always felt 40 was just so….old.

It's just a number, man. It beat Hell out of not getting to 40.

I feel the same way now that I've hit 40 as well. I can't do anything without sound effects. It's either a crack or a groan lol!

From Sep. 15 2025 on I'll be closer to my 30th birthday than to my 18th birthday. That's gonna be a weird feeling.

Klingerman, besides CW is running the Rolex, and he says a handful of Truck races, maybe more. So...he isn't retired. yea.
