One of the best weekends of the year for me. Besides NASCAR restarting for real, it's also the four-day 'Great Backyard Bird Count'.I’m just ready for Cup to come back, one of the longest weeks of the year for me.
Interesting tire pressure difference side to side...New right sides for the plate tracks …

Notes – New right-side tire for Cup cars: Being on 18-inch bead diameter tires, NASCAR Cup teams will run a different tire set-up than those in the Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series at Daytona this week . . . this is the same left-side tire Cup teams have run at Daytona since the beginning of 2022 . . . this is the first time they will run this right-side tire, with a construction update over what was run at Daytona in 2024 . . . Cup teams are scheduled to run this same tire set-up at Talladega in April . . . with this 18-inch bead diameter tire, and its lower profile sidewall, NASCAR Cup cars do not run inner liners in any of their tires.
Goodyear quote – Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of global race tires: “This is always an exciting time in the racing season, getting down to Daytona for the 500. Daytona is a tire strategy track with teams trying to minimize time on pit road and line up with teammates by mixing in fuel-only and two-tire stops throughout the race. When it all shakes out, we always have a great and exciting race for the fans as we embark on a new season.”
Goodyear Blimp – Florida-based airship over Daytona all weekend: “Wingfoot Two” is scheduled to be in the air over Daytona International Speedway for all the NASCAR races this week . . . this airship is based out of Pompano Beach, Fla. . . . this June 3 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Goodyear Blimp . . . Goodyear will celebrate this milestone with a year-long campaign, including aerial presence at the biggest moments in sports.
I hope Jr and team, finds the sponsorship and money to dip their toes further into Cup racing this year and the coming years. There’s no negative drawback to halving still arguably the sport’s most popular personality involved in the week to week racing competition. SOI posted above of Jr being with the team at 6am as the car was being pushed into the garage, I found that so wholesome.I won't be surprised if we don't see JRM run another Cup race this year.
I also won't be surprised if we see them again at the Talladega races and the second Daytona race.
I'll be very surprised if we see it run anywhere else this year.
If Kelley can't do it right, JRM ain't doing it.Jr isn't showing up with junk and no clue.
I thought about that as a Bold Prediction.40 cars gonna sit on the front row.
The Carl Long car in 4th?!
Came out really late and was in the draft. Most guys only wanted to run single cars. The last 10 or so minutes some of the Toyotas started drafting and the 66 got in on it.The Carl Long car in 4th?!
It will make Revman happy. Those practice figures are mostly pretty worthless. Qualifying numbers will be a better gauge of the speed part at least.Came out really late and was in the draft. I think Mike Joy called it the "PR run"It will make Revman happy. Those practice figures are mostly pretty worthless. Qualifying numbers will be a better gauge of the speed part at least.
I'd pay a little attention to the speeds of those cars than ran 3 laps or less. Those practice figures are mostly pretty worthless.
