Apologies if there’s a thread already, but I didn’t see one after a quick search so I figured I’d make one to be a catch all for the upcoming Xfinity Series season. And we start with a bomb of some news….no longer a Series sponsor but a NASCAR Partner

 
Xfinity will also be the sponsor of “fastest lap” which will reward one point during the course of a race for fastest lap of the race. Will be implemented in all 3 National series

Comcast’s Xfinity telecommunications brand will end its title sponsorship of NASCAR’s second-rung series after 2025, but only while renewing its broader premier partnership of the sanctioning body for multiple years and with fresh strategies.

“The new assets in the renewed premier-partner term for Xfinity are highlighted by an unprecedented rule change that will impact the field of play in NASCAR. Starting this season, NASCAR will introduce the “Xfinity Fastest Lap,” which will award one point to the team and driver with the fastest single recorded lap each race, across all three of NASCAR’s national series. The program is similar to one that was just retired in F1 and is somewhat comparable to contingency prizes that NASCAR awards. However, the typical contingency programs in NASCAR don’t involve giving points out in races, making this asset unique. Also new under the extended term, Xfinity Mobile will become the official wireless partner of NASCAR while Xumo, a FAST service from Comcast and Charter, becomes an official video and streaming partner of the sanctioning body. GMR Marketing is Xfinity’s agency of record for sports.”
 
The point for the fastest lap is kinds crazy imo.

Why not bring back points for leading laps or leading the most laps before rewarding a point for fastest lap?

Imagine seeing someone move on in the playoffs and end up winning the championship because they got an extra point for getting the fastest lap at Talladega 🤣
 
Doesn't make a lot of sense. How do they know when a car is going to turn the fastest lap. Sometimes it is in the middle of a battle coming down to the finish and do you think anybody watching needs to be distracted by the "here is the roll around mattresses fastest time winner"
 
I don’t have a problem with a point for fastest lap, but recognize it might be a huge issue come playoff time. I’d rather have a point for leading a lap and a point for most laps led instituted if we’re going to go this route

Why not all of them? Although if they bring back a point for leading a lap, I think it should be only for laps lead under green flag. None of this nonsense of staying out under a caution to get a point.

Why would that be more laughable than getting a championship by one point because the driver lead a lap at Talladega?

It's Xfinity's money. They probably picked fastest lap so they can tie it in with their broadband speed.

The fastest lap is the one of those three least likely to able to be manipulated for example to give a teammate an extra point in the playoffs. You could let them lead a lap if they are running close enough etc. You can't push them around to make them go faster for a lao (you kind of can but

Could we see, for example, cars running on the tail of lead lap pitting for tires near the end to have a go at it for the point?

I don't like awarding points for leading laps or fastest lap. The point of the race is to win it or get the highest finish possible, so that's what should earn points in my opinion. If you want to award a point for something else, it should be for winning the pole. That comes the day before the race and it certainly is a competition, so I'm OK wit h the pole winner getting a point.

Having said that, it's no biggie to me. I am no longer able to get all lathered up about adding a minor wrinkle to NASCAR's convoluted and illogical point system. I'm hoping for an overhaul, not merely a tweak, for 2026.

I hated that reward for leading a lap, its like giving a kid a trophy for being the first in line for participation.
 
Anyone else here think it's kind of silly that the Xfinity Series is just on CW? Cup is a mix of everything, but starting with FOX and FS1. Trucks are on FOX and FS1 the entire year. I find it hard to believe FOX and FS1 wouldn't have also done the Xfinity Series for the entire year as well.

The CW just buries the Xfinity Series. I stream and couldn't even tell you the last time I watched the CW. I don't even have that app and not sure the subscription I use for some other channels would even work. Probably won't even bother watching any Xfinity Series races this year. unless it's on at a bar. Meanwhile the Truck Series is honestly getting more exposure, including 3 races on FOX.

Just seems dumb to me to bury the Xfinity Series on CW. Terrible move honestly by NASCAR. I would say try to get Xfinity Series on FOX and FS1, that way fans know exactly where to tune in for 2 out of the 3 series every week.

I think the CW needs better cameras. The picture quality is horrible

I thought the ratings for the first two races on CW were higher than Xfinity has seen in quite some time. Seems to be working quite well.
