2025 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500

Seems like they should be finding more of the illegal stuff while going through the prerace tech. They have almost 48 hours from the final practice until the green flag to get it done.
The violation on the 90 at least seems like something that can reasonably be attributable to something happening during the race, like hitting debris or contact on a restart. The Andretti issues were likely not something discoverable without a complete teardown. Not unlike how, in NASCAR, a lot of the big penalties seem to come after an entry gets randomly selected to go to R&D.

I tried again this year. I didn’t make it. It’s almost like watching baseball. You sit around just hoping something will happen. I had to switch channels.

Always feel bad for the drivers of these penalized cars. They're out there putting their life on the line and it turns out to be for nothing.
Kyle Larson should've stayed in bed Sunday.
Very disappointed with the lack of coverage after Nolan Siegel crashed. Kept waiting for a replay to see if he was alright but we got nothing.

Fox had several fails on their broadcast. There was at least two times they switched to the wrong camera. And they had no video of the '92 Gurrero pace lap crash for reference. The announcers mentioned it several times, but no video of it. Maybe that's an IMS thing and Fox was not allowed to show it.

Still thought Fox's coverage was miles better than their NASCAR coverage. The announcers alone made the broadcast better imo.

Not a good look any way you slice it with that many cars getting DQ'd. Does that seem like enough of a penalty for that kind of thing? It doesn't to me is why I am asking. I know it is their big payday and the rest of the season not so much, but damn, it makes a person wonder about the rest of the field at this point.
No one really cares about points at the 500, but it did have the effect of moving Ericsson from 10th to 20th and Kirkwood from 3rd to 5th in the championship. In terms of the purse, it probably cost the Andretti organization a few hundred thousand dollars before accounting for the total $200k fine across both cars. PREMA are unchartered so it wouldn’t affect their purse total much, but $100k is still a decent fine.

Lots of work left to do on the technical side for sure. The scoreboard spazzing out the entire race was bizarre. Not following up on Siegel was frustrating since it ended the race and looked like a big impact, but I guess they were already well past their broadcast window at that point.

Generally speaking, I think they’ve still exceeded expectations so far. They have a very good announcing crew, and that is with Buxton still having room for growth. And they’ve been very receptive to fan feedback on what types of graphics they do or don’t want featured.
