F1 2025 News/Misc.

Canada will be run on the same day as and overlap with the Indy 500.

**** ‘em.
Unless Fox moves Indy to a 3:30 pm timeslot🙄

Madrid replacing Imola was clear all the time but it still sucks such a great track is replaced by a generic one in an industrial area with no apparent passing opportunities.

Idk if Thailand/Rwanda/RSA/ or any other prospective new track is ready by 2027 so maybe Imola can make it's way back on the schedule when Barcelona is gone.

I guess I'm late to the party, but what is the reason for Monaco moving for the traditional Memorial Day weekend?
They can go to North America and knock out Miami and Montreal in one trip before starting the European slate. They usually have two or three races in Europe before going to Canada for one race and back.

They say it should conflict ‘only’ once every five years with the way the calendars fall, but that is still one too many. They have two full open weeks in between Miami and Montreal next year, they could’ve easily moved it up one weekend.

I'm looking forward to it myself, it would be like two heavyweights standing toe to toe pounding it out. TV numbers for North America should be telling I would think. Is F1 looking to shop the date around for more money with the problems they had last year? And now they could have one more excuse because of TV ratings?

It can be quite a bit cooler up there three or four weeks earlier as well, I wonder how the promoter feels about that.

Lmao given that Richard Hammond couldn't even get the damn thing to move without a lot of help when he tested out the Renault years and years ago on Top Gear I would pay money to see Trump try to drive a modern F1 car.

>>Rumour: Max Verstappen holds ‘concrete’ talks with Mercedes...

...George Russell, the driver Verstappen would most likely replace, revealed at last week’s Austrian Grand Prix that talks to take the reigning World Champion to Mercedes are “ongoing...”<<

Reaching here but.....Maybe it explains why Max was so forgiving with Kimi Antonelli. They're going to be teammates eventually. Just having a little fun fueling the rumors.

Casual f1 fan here.... why is there 2 weekends off, 2 races, 3 weekends off? I know the summer break is a thing but is there a reason for so much off time when they're already in Europe?

'member when Christian Horner was being reportedly being tabbed to take over Red Bull GBMH - the whole thing, the drink company and the whole 9 yards? And so they engaged in a coverup of him being a creeper to female employees and it led to Newey, Wheatley, and presumably given this, Max possibly walking away?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Red Bull is going to fall apart now.
They already were. There’s been a lot of brain drain from there in the past couple of years. Obviously there was also the whole power struggle between the Thai and Austrian sides of the parent company that @virtualbalboa referenced as well.

So is it now more likely that Max is leaving - or less? 🤔
It’s possible he’s already gone, and that it was the final straw for Horner.

Sadly we will probably never know the entire truth about what happened, but it's probably squarely due to this.

I'm waiting to see what Marko has to say about this.

It seemed the chemistry died between Horner and Max
during the Horner / employee investigation shenanigans
a year or two ago. Max was definitely not happy with
Horner during those times. Throw in poor performance,
loss of Newey , possible loss of Max.... easy decision.

At the end of the day, Red Bull was dominant in the WDC for years and then the people who made the team that way left and now they're basically in the Mercedes/Ferrari zone as occasional threat to win but not a serious title contender anymore for WDC or the Constructor's Title. Need I remind everyone that finishing position in the Constructor's Title is what determines your purse share from the media rights deals, and right now Red Bull is in 4th place after finishing 3rd last year following two straight titles. That's tens or even hundreds of millions in lost income compared to what the expectations might have been with the people who left due to Horner's behavior.

Yeah, the Max stuff is real and important but I think you're right that the constructors title is the elephant in the room when it comes to what really pulls the levers in F1.

And you have to look at the team's utter failure with the second car as exhibit A in the case against Horner - with no sign at all of it getting any better. Who knows, maybe the personality stuff and the scandal and all played a part - but winning seems to smooth those things over.

Mekies has done a great job with the Racing Bulls thus far and should be an encouraging promotion to the parent team. Beyond Horner, Red Bull have lost their edge on race weekends - they used to have the best pit stops in the game, but have fumbled numerous times already this season. They used to have excellent strategy, but have botched multiple calls this year (Suzuka notwithstanding). And they simply don’t communicate well in-race anymore, Spain being the most egregious example.

Mekies will have to conduct a pretty significant overhaul on his hands to get Red Bull back to the top. You could argue that Racing Bulls are actually the better team anyways and that the differentiating factor between them and Red Bull is simply Verstappen.
