All I know is I wouldn’t want to find out when my suspension fails at 185 MPH on corner entry. But of course Rasmussen is gonna take the risk and go for it.

First car with new tires is Pato in 9th. Gonna be interesting.
Looks fine. Some sturdy cars right there. Power was in the wrong there, just ran him right into the wall

I was rooting for Power but I think he squeezed Rasmussen. I also think Rasmussen had plenty of time and the speed to wear down any moves or blocks by Power without walling it.

I still hope Rasmussen's suspension holds up, he deserves the win in my opinion.

Awesome race - certainly better than any of the last three Phoenix events between 2016-2018. IndyCar short oval racing is a really good product right now.

Props to FOX and NASCAR for having the series join the card this weekend. It’s so important to have an oval before the 500 and Phoenix has a lot of open wheel heritage. This was another home run collaboration after St. Pete.

Rasmussen is a wheel man and he should put on great show and be a great story at Indy. I am so ready for anyone to step it up against Álex Palou and give him some competition.

But Indy is also a lot less forgiving in my opinion. Every corner entry has to be perfect. Rasmussen has the wicked speed, he will have to work on the patience.

Made it to Phoenix yesterday for the races. Perfect weather!
My first indycar race. Im normally a nascar guy.

Anyway, the indycar race was a good show. Watching Newgarden go from 10th to first in about 25 laps was impressive! The whole race seemed like a lot of fuel saving until the last 50 laps.
It was cool to see Scott Dixon mix it up with strategy as well. Plenty of passing and side by side racing. 250 laps was a good distance for this race.

Stayed for the nascar race. Had BBQ dinner in between races. Food was expensive but what can you do? 24 bucks for a pulled pork sandwich. Yikes!
Didn't seem like there were too many other options other than BBQ either.

Only made it halfway through the second stage and just had enough for the day. Wanted to beat the crowd getting out of the parking lot.

A couple of thoughts. The indycar racing was better, especially without the stupid stages.
The Nascars were twice as loud and thunderous as the indycars which made the nascars feel more exciting.
They need to put the start finish line back where it was so the grandstands can see turns 1 and 2 up close. It seems like you miss a lot of action with turn 1 now going into rattlesnake hill.
The dogleg gimmick is fun for a lap and then kind of annoying. I would love to see them put a patch of artifical turf down there to make more of a low lane vs high lane kind of thing.
Last, indycar needs a driver in both races kind of like the nascar double at indy/Charlotte. That would be fun to watch!!!

Oh, the indycar race seemed more full than the nascar race but that could have just been the day time weather. Everyone was looking to sit in the shade for the indy race. The nascar race was at night basically so the crowd was more dispersed.
That being said, the seats around us for indycar were full shoulder to shoulder, but empty for the nascar race.

I knew that Newgarden won after hearing the results and still watched on the dvr this morning lol and was like how is he going to win this thing from back in 10th with 30 to go. Fun watching him fly on the fresh tires up thru there. Nice drive. Fast car clearly. Good weekend for Indycar at Phoenix.

@LouieLouie, I saw different pit strategies but not fuel saving. Maybe I missed it.
Maybe not formally fuel saving strategies, but you could tell the cars were slower early on and not pushing it. The last 50 laps, every one was full bore!
Maybe just the cycle of the race??? Now I wonder what lap times look like.
