The Gibbs/Furniture Row thing can be easily explained by Joe Gibbs Racing is not Joe Gibbs Racing, they are the factory Toyota team. (Look at how many other Toyotas are in the field.) The factory team does not like getting beat by their satellite, be it motorcycle racing, sportscars, or NASCAR.

That call was baffling to me. I have no idea what Kvyat did wrong beyond racing incident.

    2019 Chinese Grand Prix

F1 it's best understood within the prism of a lot of F1 fans don't care much about the racing part of the product, it's not the reason they watch. Anyway, I think the 2019 championship is done and dusted. Ferrari and Verstappen have taken a step back, and the 2nd Red Bull car has taken 3 steps...

    2019 Monster Energy Supercross

Re Forkner, if Sexton or Cooper win the 250 East title without winning a race which is entirely possible, does this count as the least respected regional SX winner ever?

    2019 Monster Energy Supercross

The live broadcast they didn't show the 250 heats due to NHL playoffs. Barring injury, this title is Webb's. Great win for Tomac at his home Supercross, but Webb finishing 2nd pretty much nails it down. Tomac needs to go 1-1 and Webb 10-10 for Tomac to win the title, and Webb has finished worse...

Carmichael is just not good at it. They dropped Emig for him almost entirely for name value.

    2019 Monster Energy Supercross

Roczen is done. See no way for him to win. Tomac is just about there unless he pulls off 3 or 4 wins the last races, and at this point that's a no. Be it an injury they're not telling anyone about or he's just lost pace, he doesn't look capable of pulling off that run. Really it's just Webb and...

Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

What do they do at Pocono if it rains on Saturday? Run twice on Sunday? Go Sunday/Monday? Not sure if it's been mentioned or not yet, but they moved the 1st Michigan race to the weekend after the Belle Isle Grand Prix. I can't imagine that makes Roger happy.

Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

Regarding the Olympic breaks, I imagine this is summer only and not winter which is a lesser event and in the early months of the year the series is on Fox, but what are they going to do with those 3 races every 4th year? They have to move them somewhere.

Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

There has been a run of Brickyard 400s where the forecast temperature was high 80s. I'm from eastern N.C. and I now live in Fort Wayne and agreed, the lack of humidity makes summers there for me a breeze, but all weather is relative. A Canadian can wear a T-shirt when it's 40 while a Floridian...

    hendrick 2019

Toyota doesn't have anyone work together. Gibbs is a full-on factory team. Their satellite started winning, and most people think it pissed off Gibbs, they raised the price for their stuff, and that team went out of business, meanwhile Gibbs picked up the scraps they wanted (Truex, Pearn). The...

so why did nascar seem cooler in the 80's? broadcast was way better!!

A couple years ago when ESPN would show old Indy 500s in May, I caught some of the '96 race (first post-Split 500) which was the first time I'd seen it since 1996. 40 laps in and looking at the cars and how they were racing, I was amazed looking at it, because I certainly remember racing in...

so why did nascar seem cooler in the 80's? broadcast was way better!!

What happened was NASCAR noticed that teams were running those even without cameras in them. They temporarily banned all on-roof cameras while they investigated it, and then brought them back.

so why did nascar seem cooler in the 80's? broadcast was way better!!

Racing is just different and changes. For however long you've been watching, if you go back and watch races from when you started watching, you'll be amazed at how different the actual racing of the cars and the drivers have changed from when you started. Only 20 of this year's Daytona 500...

so why did nascar seem cooler in the 80's? broadcast was way better!!

I agree with this. The current format is great for hardcores, but tuning in at noon and the race starts 5 to 10 minutes later is probably best for the general audience. A lot of the pre-race is just stage-managed filler.

so why did nascar seem cooler in the 80's? broadcast was way better!!

Because it was. CBS only had like 3 races a year. If you ever want to see the absolute worst example of this, watch the current Supercross broadcasts.

so why did nascar seem cooler in the 80's? broadcast was way better!!

Part of it is how racing has changed and part of it is the announcers. I think the current guys that are main announcers don't understand racing to the degree Squier and Bob Jenkins and Paul Page did. Mike Joy in my opinion can run circles as an announcer around Rick Allen, who has improved but...
