Maybe I'll go to the one cup race and the Indycar car race. Or maybe just the Indycar race. I definitely want to the track to stay alive in some capacity. I'd hate to see it go by way of Nazareth.

The NASCAR Championship Weekend will run from Nov. 6-8 in 2020 at the Avondale racetrack. Tuesday's announcement comes months after ISM debuted its $178 million makeover, which featured interactive garages, standing room at Gatorade Victory Lane and plenty of name-brand sponsorships in true NASCAR fashion.
The deal is not permanent, said NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton.
“We are only talking about 2020 right now,” he said. “What the future holds, we’ll see.”

NASCAR listens to the fine folks at NBC and Fox. If I run into NBC Sports Pete Bevacqua at this year's PGA Championship at Bethpage I'll let him know my thoughts!

As it is, the chips will fall where the may. It's going to be one helluva a science experiment. I'm fascinated by this stuff....

I don't know any of those folks , we used to sit in seats at PIR that have been torn down to park a few motorhomes. I fondly recall being hit with bits of hot rubber and rocks from the old surface there. A wonderful family experience torn down and changed beyond belief. Yep, they priced us out of going to the races. I loved the old PIR, I felt at home there, we went to every race, including the Mexican series.
 
What do they do at Pocono if it rains on Saturday? Run twice on Sunday? Go Sunday/Monday?

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not yet, but they moved the 1st Michigan race to the weekend after the Belle Isle Grand Prix. I can't imagine that makes Roger happy.

Its not the racing. Ive been watching and involved for over 40 years. Whats changed is the sport has been crippled by assholes on social media. As a fan and a participant thier is no question racing today is better than it was since I started watching in 1973. People are spoiled fools who complain and bitch about something they supposedly love yet they are destroying it for the younger fan who would love to get involved but they are poisioned by no nothing so called fans who end up depriving them the opportunity to watch and judge for themselves.

What in society has not been crippled by assholes on social media? You paid attention to politics lately?
 
I don't think the practical option for Pocono at this stage was two separate race weekends or a doubleheader, and the track management said "We'll take the doubleheader!". This is the first step in a years-long schedule revision that will see consolidation, and according to Steve Phelps, everything from new venues to different formats to midweek races are on the table starting in 2021.

The choice going forward is a single race or this doubleheader experiment. I think the doubleheader idea is at least worth a shot in that context. It may not work, but they can't know until they try.

Pocono is independently owned like Indy and Dover. The terms had to be dictated to them. NASCAR owes them nothing after next year.

My bad. Possibly they've been given assurances about the future based on their cooperation.

Then head on down to Darlington and sit in Chicken bone row. You can go home with your face covered with grit and pick lttle balls of tire out your hair, thats what we used to do.

I give the 2020 schedule a B+, most of the moves were great except the ridiculous Indy-Daytona swap, both were fine in their place.
 
Pocono double-header is not attractive for me as a TV viewer, as I'm not gonna travel from Georgia for that event -- but I hate missing Point Races.

After any NASCAR race (good or bad), I've reached my interest threshold as viewer fatigue sets in, so I can't imagine wanting to see another near-identical event the next day with the same drivers/cars.
 
So SMI can shift their Xfinity & Truck dates around to get Nashville Fairgrounds in 2020, no? Isn't Nashville an SMI affiliated track now?

I really don't see the use of the Kentucky Truck race on a Thursday night... move 1 of 2 Texas Xfinity races and there you go. NXS & Truck weekend at Nashville.

I’m also weary of the physical recovery time between 2 full races in 48 hours. Hellacious on the body.

Drivers do 200-250 mile Truck races and/or 250-300 mile Xfinity races & 400-500 mile Cup races in 48 hours all the time. 650-800 miles on a given weekend is not uncommon.

It would be a huge disservice to the fans to make these Cup races anything less than 300 miles.

Best thing to happen for the fans in attendance at a race in a number of years. NASCAR & IndyCar need to get with the program for a doubleheader. Doubleheaders and loaded race weekends are great for attendance.

I'm thinking of coming from out west & staying in NYC for a few days.

Still waiting for an IndyCar/NASCAR doubleheader at "new" tracks for each series. Darlington and Circuit of the Americas would be ideal.

(Or have such a doubleheader at Milwaukee and Rockingham)

I'd like a Chicagoland doubleheader so they can move one of their Truck or NXS races during Chicagoland weekend to another ISC facility.

That little late June/early July stretch is probably gonna be pretty taxing on the teams. 900 miles at Pocono in one weekend then the Brickcracker 400 six days later.
 
Bold prediction of adding three more road races might still happen. Seems logical to run the rival at one of the Pocono races, run at Indy and the 2nd Daytona race.
Overall, I like most of the schedule changes. But i would be disappointed if they run the oval at Daytona as the final race before playoffs.
 
Instead of complaining I'm about pointing out the good in the changes. Daytona as the final race to make the playoffs? Perfect. Last Chance at The World center of Speed, a promoters dream- Part 1.

The Southern 500 kicking off the playoffs on labor day, add in throwback weekend along all the tradition and history, what a weekend that will be. |

yep another short track in the playoffs also, and what is going to happen in that race trying to get into the final four?
 
Kinda a mess having the same race less than two months apart at Pocono, it should make for a good RV/camping event now when it is combined. Good experiment to try and it cuts a week off the length of the season.

If they did it at Darlington I'd be there with all my buddies. It would be a weekend to remember lol. But I give Pocono credit for giving it a shot, I think they will do very well. I dont think they should run 2 400 milers though and with a support race the same day I doubt they will. I'm thinking maybe 2 250 milers

they say the details about that race double header haven't been worked out yet, so who knows what they will decide. I doubt there will be two full length races myself. Time will tell.
