    Rate The Race: Atlanta

    7. I don't think the segments caused any extra excitement, either. It picked up some towards the end after Harvick was out, and there was some challenge for the lead.

What do you think about the changes?

I know the segments are a gimmick too, but I didn't hate it. So far, so good. I guess it helps to give the appearance they are doing something for these mythical young fans with short attention spans. And it made for a little more strategy. They needed to do more for the regular season to offset...

3 of my 4 wrecked also. I thought Chase was going to at least help me out in the end, but he ran out of gas.

I'm there. I'm hoping the curiousity/terror of what's in store for this year will keep me from forgetting to set my drivers each week.

    It could always be worse.

They just need to look at what was going on 10-15 years ago. NASCAR was hot then, and people haven't changed that much since then. What went wrong? Start there. And yeah, maybe take a couple of the snoozer races and do some experiments to see what happens. Maybe they hit on something. I dont know.

    Phoenix Renovation

Lesa France Kennedy, chief executive officer of International Speedway Corp., which owns the track, stated before the season that Phoenix International Raceway and Richmond International Raceway were the next two tracks scheduled for improvements Wonder what they will do to Richmond after they...

Your interest is a favorite Nascar manufacturer... Strong, Moderate, or Zero?

Kind of like most of you, I don't really care that much because they all look alike. But if they were more like the showroom models, I'd care a lot more.

Impact on NASCAR without Gordon, Stewart, and Dale Jr.

The problem I see with the new crop of kids in racing is that they are beholden to their sponsors more than ever. They are trained from the beginning if you have a bad day, not to get out and throw your helmet or show that you had anything but the best day possible. It makes it hard to really...

Bonehead of the week: Talladega II

Bonehead move for NBC putting the race on NBCSN. But kudos to them for showing the truck race on NBC.

Interesting North Wilkesboro article at Nascar.com

What if somehow North Wilkesboro had a Cup race in 2016 and sold out, even if it was only 40,000 in attendance... Seems that would be as good as Bristol with maybe 70,000 a while back. I know its about the TV market too. But still, I don't only watch Richmond races because that's my closest...

Who Drives The 88 In 2017 (if Junior Retires This Year)?

I'd like to see Newman in the 88. I always like him and I miss the days when he was on the pole every week. Still, I think Rick will miss those marketing dollars, and Danica would be the pick.

I've had some good luck lately. Unfortunately I used up most of the good guys already. I sure hope David Ragan has been saving something for the Chase races...

Gordon as a pick is complicated anyway. Do you go ahead and use him, thinking he's not going to run many races? Or do you save him for later, but run the risk of either Jr coming back or them going with a different driver.

    NBC lady's golf? seriously?

I looked at that list, and the only one I can pick up (barely) is Crewe. And an hour into the race, they were not playing it. They usually play it on their FM station too, but it wasn't on. 1140 in Richmond was also not broadcasting it. I checked them both around 4:00, as Jayski had it starting...

    Favorite Driver and Why?

Right now I'd say Jr and Kurt Busch. Junior is as close to the old guys as you can still get, and I've always liked that Kurt wasn't afraid to speak his mind (and Kyle, too). Still, its harder to pick favorites these days than years back. The personalities are so much harder to identify with.

    NBC lady's golf? seriously?

I couldn't find it on any FM station yesterday. And this was in southern Virginia, not in NY. Used to be I could pick it up on at least 2 stations. Don't get me started on it being on NBCSN.

France Squashes weeknight races.... road course in the chase...

They can shorten a few more races if they want, but I want to see one race truly be an endurance race. The 600 used to be that, but now it's no problem for those cars to go that distance. I'm sure part of the endurance would involve fans enduring a very long race, but I still think it would be...

    The end of an era

I know I'll miss him. For all the reasons above. It's too bad he's had so much bad luck the past few years. Has there every been a driver that has fallen so fast from championship form? #1 in 2011 and #9 in 2012, and just nothing after that.

An Article I wrote in on why I fel out of love with NASCAR

The sponsors thing is nuts. Used to be I could tell a race was on if I landed on the channel with Richard Petty selling Son of a Gun STP protectant. "Shoot the dash .... seats .... roof".
