Yep .. that's why I'm sticking to older, more serviceable vehicles. This summer I spent $1500 on a '98 GMC C1500 w/Vortec 5.0l. Very common, very simple to work on and parts are dirt cheap. The engine can implode tomorrow and I can swap it out for about $500 in an hour. There's nearly enough...

I'm pretty sure it costs as much it import 2x4s and drywall as it would cinderblock and mortar ... and I'm not seeing a whole lot of pine or spruce in the Caribbean for sawing their own lumber. Hell, even adobe would be far safer. They can certainly manage that cheap, can't they? I don't pretend...

My last 4 car purchases have all been under $1500 each. Knowing your way around under the hood doesn't cost a lot ... but it saves you tons.
