    NASCAR's most underrated drivers.

Not sure if Kenny Schrader and Neal Bonnett were underrated.... Maybe Harry Gant too. I think they were. I know the other drivers respected them.

Didn't AMC win one at Ontario, CA (Bobby Allison?)

First Memories Of Watching Cup Series

1969 Michigan (500?) Cale won that one. That was my last Cup race other than the Twin Qualifiers at Daytona and one Busch Clash.

Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Bet there was a driver that didn't think much of that big DC Solar sign in one of the turns at Charlotte.

    Truck RACE thread --- Charlotte

Sure wish the announcers would quit that "the drivers want to beat the best...." garbage. I'm sure their sponsors say the same thing, NOT. Sure they want to beat the best, but they would rather win a bunch of races. They will never get the experience in Trucks that KB has and not much chance...

    Race pics and experiences

Man, I miss my Flemington (when it was dirt) days... never forget watching Ploski and Pauch "ride the fence."

    DW to call it quits?

I remember my first time seeing Waltrip race in person. It was in the early to mid 70's at New Smyrna. He arrived late with his wife Stevie and a friend of mine said "that will never last -- he'll have another woman on his arm a year from now." Guess he was off by some 45 years!

What’s Going On At Richard Petty Motorsports?

I'd like to see Chastain and Wallace switch cars for a few weeks and see the results. That might reveal how much each driver means to each team (I'm not saying either is better than the other, because I really don't know.)

    The Attendance Thread

It's not just Nascar though. ARCA had pretty good attendance at Daytona in the middle 80's and 90's. Our local short track, Cajon Speedway was drawing 3,500 to 4,000 in the mid 90's. It went down to around 1,900 in the early 2,000's. Most of the short track racing seen on NBCSN doesn't have...

What should NASCAR do with Qualifying?

Single car, lined up according to the finish position of the last race (I doubt anyone would try to finish worse to get a better qualifying position for the upcoming race.) New cars that weren't in the previous race qualify first based on points or race entry dates. As mentioned, qualify in...

Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Old school here ... I always like the single car qualifying, whether it's local track lower divisions or Cup. Not sure what Nascar is trying to do, or is pressure from their TV partners to have more drama and fit into an hour or so package? The under-funded teams don't get much exposure and at...

    Rules

Towards the end of the Texas race, I saw a crew member roll a tire towards the wall -- way more than an arms length away (in the middle of the roll) from the roller and the receiver. No penalty, but the static tire one gets a penalty? Things like this feed the "Nascar fix" rumors.

Best short track on the west coast?

I haven't been there yet, but Kern County Raceway Park looks nice (even has a hauler tunnel.) They have trouble with car count though and it took a long time to open, so I imagine many of the Mesa teams were long gone by then. Several years ago SoCal had some pretty competitive tracks -- Cajon...

so why did nascar seem cooler in the 80's? broadcast was way better!!

I think the reason the announcers of broadcasts years ago was they had to tell the viewer/listener the story, like radio announcers in baseball. There were a lot less cameras and video quality was a lot less than the HD we have now. So nowadays's, the viewer can see what's happening and don't...

    The Announcers Thread

I think he meant hard to drive like a supermodified -- difficult to get the most speed out of the car, not how much strength or physical endurance it take.

    Greatest What If Drivers...

These drivers didn't have their careers cut short, but chose not to get into Nascar. Drivers like Larry Phillips, Bob Senneker, Mike Eddy, Tom Reffner, and others. And Trickle who got into Nascar late. From what I understand, they were making more money hitting the big local shows back in the...
