Has the use of automatic transmissions in NASCAR ever been suggested/promoted? If so, by whom. And if so, what was the reasoning?

Will we see any (manufacturer or team) engine failures tonite?

Does NASCAR dictate what gear ratios are run at each track? Do teams run the same ratio at Indy, Daytona and Talladega? What ratios are run at Talladega?

This must have a reason for existing other than just getting me to actually crank it up. Do the announcers use this few minutes to take a bathroom break or just take a break from talking or...?

Thanks for all the input. Much appreciated. Taking everything into consideration I opted to purchase another scanner. Ordered a Uniden BC75XLT from Amazon. Reading the reviews and the many of the questions/responses, I feel pretty comfortable this will work out. We'll see.

Scanner long gone. Even with the manual nobody could program/figure it out. Is MRN the only option for "at track" broadcasts? Only FM.

After a race, and engines are torn down, what pieces, if any, are re-used? Are the blocks and cylinder heads generally good for multiple races? Cams? Pistons?
