The Greatest Day in Racing...(probably going to have spoilers in it)

It is my favorite racing day. I always watch Monaco but it is terrible race, there are no passing zones, it is a parade. Indy is my favorite race of the day and it seems to go by fast. I find myself holding my breath during the last laps. The 600 is a long race and it is a test of the...

Doug Yates has a similar story to Jr, a famous father and earning your own way. A lot of the stories were about his father Robert Yates and the drivers Davy Allison, Ernie Irvan, and Dale Jarret. I didn't know Robert's team tried to hire Dale's dad but in those days you can't hire THE Chevy...

All Star Race 2022 Texas. The Promise Land of Motor Freakin' Speed. No Limits, Texas

NASCAR often uses the All Star race to try new things. I was wondering what they are trying this time. I checked the NASCAR site and saw that part of the qualifying procedure for top 8 qualifying teams starts with a side-by-side pit stops, race off pit road (no speed limit) and the car that...

I caught the Rick Mears episode and he talked about some tings I found interesting. He mentioned that the great drivers from his era were successful because they didn't exceed the limits of the car - it was a self preservation deal. When he started Indycar they had wings on the cars, he was...

I agree, Lagano made no attempt to pass.

NASCAR 2022 - Bold Prediction Thread

My prediction is done. Kyle stole the win - it counts. I had noticed he wasn't doing well with the lack of testing last year and I thought that might continue this year with limited testing plus the new car probably would be harder for the veterans to figure out. But this season he's been...

Cup RACE thread --- Bristol dirt

Intentionally wrecking someone for the win isn't racing, it's a lack of sportsmanship. While I expect drivers to lean on each other in short track racing, there is a fine line between between moving and wrecking a car - sometimes it is hard to tell the difference. I think Kyle should have...

    NASCAR at LeMans

I was wondering what class the car would be in when I noticed the term Garage 56. I had to look up what that class is. It is a special class of one, it does not qualify for a podium finish but it is scored with the field. It is intended to test new ideas and innovations; the Nissan DeltaWing...

    Cup Races Too Long?

It takes football about 3-1/2 hours to play a 60 minute game. It takes baseball over 3 hours to play 9 innings. I think most NASCAR races fall in that range. F1 races take exactly 2 hours.

    Cup RACE thread --- COTA

It was a fun last couple of laps. I always like it when a driver gets his first win. Bowyer was right, all 3 drivers did what they had to do - any one of them could have won.

    Dale jr podcast

Geoff didn't say how the rivalry started but he talked about how he was having success and when that happens the other successful drivers see the new guy as a threat. Earnhardt would mess with Bodine on track and Bodine said he was pig headed and messed with Earnhardt back. Bodine was mostly on...

NASCAR 2022 - Bold Prediction Thread

I thought my prediction (Kyle Busch doesn't win a race) was over in Las Vegas until the the last caution. I've got a feeling my prediction will be short lived or there will be many more like the finish yesterday.

What do you think of the NextGen Car?

So far it seems the car is an equalizer between the big and small teams (I expect the big teams to get develop gray area advantages). The new car will have issues to overcome. Every new product goes through testing but real world use shows what was missed in testing. The flat tire issue will...

    Cup RACE thread --- Daytona

It is also a radomizer and a bit of an equalizer. Some drivers tend to be able to move to the front on a regular basis. I noticed when Wallace moved down in front of the Penkse boys that he was getting bumped in a manor that upset his car until he moved back to the outside, I wonder if that...

Bonehead of the week: Daytona 500

Kez caused 2 wrecks, the rest were racing incidents due to the nature of super speedway racing.

    Cup RACE thread --- Daytona

It was an exciting finish. I was cheering for all of the drivers who had a chance. It looked like the cars could move through the field and the leader couldn't block the field like the old car. I thought Kez was driving like Stienhouse used to drive.

    Dale jr podcast

It was a good listen. He raced a car on street tires, someone gave him some racing tires and his racing career was started. I remember watching all of the 24 hours of Daytona on Speedvision (before SpeedTV), I stayed up all night (I was young enough to do that). They interviewed Boris in the...

    2022 Daytona 500 pre-race thread

It makes sense to preserve the car for the big race, aside from the front row, starting anywhere in the field is not a problem. Only a few cars are racing their way into the 500. Historically, one of the duels is conservative and the other... you know how it goes. Once the drivers start...

I knew the name Red Farmer being part of the Alabama gang but I didn't know anything about him. I didn't know he wasn't from Alabama. I'm always interested in how drivers start their careers, he started racing because he won a race and made $300 which was way more money than he was making...
